ren’t meant to be authentic but folk art silly. My American Heroes are not exact busts of these heroes but representative of them. They are folk style with all the blemishes of carving in soft wood and trying to carve a face in a one inch area. All carvings range from 4-8 inches high, 3-7 inches wide, and 1.5-3 inches depth. They are carved from bass wood. The paint used is an acrylic base with a shellac finish. Wooden dowels and glue are used to attach the 3-4 piece carving of the American Heroes. The finished product is not always smooth. Currently I have an American Heroes collection, a Barnyard collection, Holiday collection, and Circus collection. My primary focus is on American Heroes with an emphasis on women. Having a beautiful wife, 7 sisters,4 sisters in law, 3 daughters, a daughter in law, mother in law, and 3 granddaughters, I wanted to focus on American women first. All carvings are designed for fitting on window sills, shelves and benches. I use a lot of old style paint colors and number every piece. I’m currently retired after 37 years as sales engineer in the manufacturing sector. I hadn’t carved in the last 20 years. I had some injuries that have left me with no right wrist motion and limited left wrist motion. About 5 months ago, I discovered that I could carve again using palm knives. Also due to weak hand strength, I found that could work only on small carvings with the use of soft woods. All carvings are numbered, dated, and signed. I make these carvings one at time. All my carvings are my design. Most American Heroes carvings take 10-12 hours to carve. So if one sells out, give me a little time and I will do another with a new number.
