Student Leader Scholarship Program | Vitalant 04/24/2024

Do you have student(s) looking to promote social change?

As one of the largest providers of biotherapies in the nation, Vitalant ensures a safe blood supply to the U.S. population, but summers are a little tough. With high schools and colleges being out for the summer, the number of blood donors drops drastically in our region.

That’s where you step in . . .

We are searching for community minded student leaders who are rising high school seniors planning to be dually enrolled or are entering college freshman or undergraduate students planning to enroll in a post-high school educational institution within the United States for fall 2024 or spring 2025. Help us engage students in the Vitalant Summer Student Leader Scholarship Program!

By volunteering to participate in Vitalant’s Student Leader Scholarship Program, students will play a significant role in building, diversifying, and growing our community’s blood supply while enhancing their skills in the areas of community engagement, program planning, and health education. For their service, students can earn a scholarship up to $1,000. Here is the basic criteria to participate:

Student Leader Scholarship Program Criteria

Be enthusiastic about volunteering to save lives!
Acquire basic knowledge about blood donor eligibility and the blood donation process.
Plan to spend a minimum of 5 hours actively recruiting blood donors to your virtual blood drive.
Be enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, a post-high school educational institution accredited in the United States in fall 2024 or spring 2025. Community college, trade school, college, university, and post-graduate studies qualify.
Register to participate at https://www.vitalant.org/scholarship.
Earn points for every person that donates blood through your virtual blood drive link at a Vitalant Blood Drive or Vitalant Blood Donor Center.
Max scholarship award is $1,000 based on points earned through successful blood donations.
Program runs from June 1st – August 31st, 2024.
Save Our Summer and Save Lives!
One blood donation can save up to 3 lives, so students participating in this community service focused scholarship program will be vital to saving so many lives in Memphis and the Mid-South. Please share this information with your students, and once registered, a member of the Vitalant Team will reach out to them. For more information, please visit www.Vitalant.org/scholarship or send an email to Keisha Walker, Vitalant Memphis Community Affairs Manager, at [email protected].

To all Black Memphians, as well as to all descendants of Black ancestors in this country, I would like to personally wish you a Happy Juneteenth holiday!

I encourage you to use this time to reflect on the “stony road we have trod,” rejoice for we are “out from our gloomy past ,” and resist all systemic pressures and forces that do not contribute to racial and social progress!

As of June 16th’s City Council Meeting, my resolution to establish Juneteenth as a City Holiday was passed unanimously. The City of Memphis will offer a paid holiday for Juneteenth beginning in 2021.

This is our day. Enjoy. ✊🏾
