Here's to day one of construction in the Laboratory adding our new Roche Chemistry Equipment. This is perfect for our growing volume allowing throughput of up to 4,400 tests per hour.

We are more than excited because this renovation will be adding more extensive and specified tests for our patients with faster turnaround times.

In July of 2022, as one might imagine we were shocked to learn we would be having TWINS! However, in retrospect after two unfortunate miscarriages, we should not have been surprised that the 3rd attempt blessed us two babies. Sierra and Arya were born early on December 22, both came out ready to take on the world. The amazing NICU team helped us in so many ways, while we waited to bring our girls home. Both girls left after two weeks weighing in at 4 pounds. Fast forward to today and both are healthy, happy babies. Sierra loves to run around, and Arya is our little book nerd. We are so thankful to the NICU team, and the hospital.

On June 14, 2021, I was seen for the first time by a high risk OBGYN in Germantown. When I arrived at the OBGYN they did a vaginal ultrasound, and my babies head was all the way down and my cervix was completely gone. They monitored me for contractions in the office and was told to go straight to Baptist Womens Hospital. I arrived at the hospital, and they put me on the monitor and looked over me. I went in at 24 weeks and 4 days gestation. The hospital told me I would be here on bed rest until the baby made his arrival. I stayed in the hospital for exactly 1 week before my little boy made his arrival at 25 weeks and 4 days. The hospital staff was amazing and took great care of me and my baby. My son, Bryson, was immediately taken to the NICU as a micro preemie. He spent the first 2 and 1/2 months of his life there. We drove from Hernando, Ms. to Germantown to see our sweet boy every day. I love that this NICU offered a camera to watch your baby any time of the day or night. It made it so much easier being so far to be able to check on our baby from home. Bryson had developed pneumonia during his stay at the NICU. The nurses told me he was a strong boy, he did not run a fever and barely showed any symptoms. I have a picture when he had pneumonia during his stay, and I remember asking him through his incubator “Are you okay baby?” and he gave his mommy a big thumbs up!
Bryson Ryder Appleton is a very strong boy to this day! He will be turning 3 years old in just a couple short weeks. Of course, our baby being in the NICU was very difficult for us, but the nurses and doctors never failed to do everything they could for him! I recommend this hospital to any women who wants an amazing experience and a very clean hospital.

At my 30 week appointment, I was doting over our beautiful little boy's 3D ultrasound pictures. My OB came in with extra papers and showed me where the ultrasound showed a “double bubble” and that my baby would require surgery to fix this birth defect. She told me more labs and ultrasounds would need to be ran to rule out anymore defects that are associated with Duodenal Atresia. Talk about a happy moment turning into a whirlwind of emotions! After many doctor's appointments, ultrasounds, and being diagnosed with Cholestasis, I was induced. The amount of people who were there to tend to my sweet boy was quite intimidating yet assured me that my baby was going to get the best care he needed. After having surgery, the surgeon, who is one of the kindest people I have ever met, told us my baby had the minor form of Duodenal Atresia and surgery went well. Throughout our 11 day stay, the NICU nurses there were amazing. There were days where I could not hold my baby due to his incision, cords, drain tubes, etc. but the nurses there went above and beyond to make sure I always felt that connection a new mom should have with their baby. While our stay and our story at Baptist NICU is shorter that others, the care and love we received here forever holds a special place in my heart. We were blessed to have the outcome we did and blessed with the team who took care of Brecken. He is a thriving almost two year old boy who brings much joy to our lives.
Sometimes we don’t understand the why in our story, but through trusting God and those He calls into the NICU field, we don’t have to understand that why. We just know it’s our beautiful story!

Magnolia was born at 29 Weeks due to pre-eclampsia and her cord having damage. She spent 39 days in NICU and 4 in the NICCU (continuing care unit) before she came home. There were a few setbacks while she was in the NICU. It felt like she was never going to gain weight, but the nursing staff and doctors comforted us each time. Being first time parents, situations like this terrified us. The nurses were a God send and reminded us that we were doing great with Magnolia. Each small victory of having tubes, lines and breathing assistances removed gave us more hope that Magnolia would be home soon. Easter Sunday her father and I came to visit her in NICU when one of the nurses told us she was being moved to the NCCU that evening. I remember crying out of happiness and the nurse taking care of her celebrating with us by hugging me tightly. The day Magnolia was discharged, the nurses and nurse practitioner reassured her father and I that everything was good and it was okay to be nervous but excited. I will forever be thankful for the staff of Baptist Women’s for the love and care they not only gave me but my daughter during the scariest time of our lives.

Severe preeclampsia had us transferred further from home than we would have planned. The staff at Baptist Women’s Hospital gave us exceptional care and comfort as first time parents to our baby boy born at 33 weeks. Leaving him in the NICU after my discharge was the most heartbreaking thing to do, yet every visit we made, the NICU nurses were intentional with the compassion, comfort, and care they provided. 19 days later was the best home going we could’ve been blessed with! We are so thankful for the Lord’s faithfulness and Baptist Women’s NICU being apart of his story. He is now a happy, healthy growing boy who will soon turn one in July. NICU nurses, keep doing what you do! You make a difference!

At my 30 week appointment, I walked into my doctor's office with my blood pressure at almost 200/100. I was quickly sent to Baptist Women's labor and delivery where I was diagnosed severe preeclampsia. Dealing with that challenge and spending Christmas and New Year's in the hospital was tough. But every day was another day I could nurture my baby a little longer. On January 4th, my blood pressure was uncontrollable, and I was hooked back up to magnesium. I was prepared for a c-section. I was scared and looked at my husband saying, "He's going to be so little. What if he doesn't cry?" As soon he was delivered, I heard his cry and sighed with relief. That precious sound made it all worth it.
Mason was born at 32 weeks and was a feisty fighter from the beginning. Although he was born with Respiratory distress syndrome, (RDS is caused by pulmonary surfactant deficiency in the lungs of neonates, most commonly in those born at 37 weeks gestation) he quickly worked his way off of oxygen and worked on getting stronger and ready to come home. After 35 long days. lots of tears, and prayers, Mason was able to come home February 9th, 2024!
The NICU team at Baptist became like family, taking care of our little one and supporting us every step of the way. It's amazing to see our baby thriving now, almost 5 months old after those 35 days in the NICU. Baptist Women’s Hospital NICU will always have a special place in our hearts for the love and care they showed us. Thank you for being my rock through it all.

Our miracle boy Austin, born at 27 weeks weighing only 1lb 8 oz had a 189 Day NICU stay. We are forever grateful for Baptist NICU for our time there and the wonderful doctors and nurses who took care of our boy. By the end of the 6 month NICU stay, they called his area the “Briscoe suite”

All of Austin’s first major holidays were spent in the NICU. He conquered through being on a ventilator for 6 weeks, had multiple surgeries, had multiple sicknesses and over 15 blood transfusions. He came home on a stat monitor, oxygen and a gtube but the wonderful doctors and nurses prepped us well for what to expect at home.

Austin had emergency heart surgery at 14 months, walked at 19 months, came off oxygen at 2 years old, started eating at 4 years old, got gtube out June 2023 and started kindergarten in August 2023 and is now enrolled to start 1st grade.

He is a happy, healthy and handsome 6 year old boy who is a living and walking miracle. To current NICU parents: ask for help from friends and family, have faith, trust the angels on earth nurses and doctors and show up for your precious baby.

On April 30, 2012 I was sent from Oxford, MS to Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women due to pre-eclampsia. Within hours of my arrival, Price was born via C-Section. I was on bed rest, so I wasn't able to go to the NICU until the next night. The sweet nurses took pictures of him and sent them to my room. Not only did they take excellent care of him, but they also made sure I was taking care of myself. He spent 42 days in the NICU due to under-developed lungs, but he was able to come home exactly one week from his due date.

Price is now a perfectly healthy 12-year-old. I am forever grateful to the staff at Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women for the outstanding care we received. I recommend this hospital to anyone.

We had our beautiful Anniston Kate at 24 weeks due to severe preeclampsia with protein in the urine. During a normal doctor visit my blood pressure was abnormal and my doctor sent me over for labs. We immediately were told I would stay at the hospital until delivery in which they would not let me go over 34 weeks. We were terrified and so confused. We had never even heard of preeclampsia. I stayed in the hospital 4 days as we tried to get my blood pressure down but the meds weren’t working. I had an emergency c section and stayed a week after delivery. My sweet baby was in the NICU for 100 days. It was the craziest journey watching your tiny baby grow from an incubator, but we wouldn’t change a thing. She was our 1 pound 3-ounce miracle. She showed us the true definition of strength and still does to this day. She’s the happiest and healthiest girl despite all that she has been through! She graduated Physical Therapy 3 months early and graduated swim school at 2 years old! We truly can’t thank the doctors and nurses enough at Baptist. They were so amazing and some still keep in touch to this day. We highly recommend any NICU parent to get involved. We also want any NICU parent to know you’re not alone and you will get through it. Be as present as you can because the hand hugs and cuddle time is special. Pray lots. Talk to your friends and family about it. Get out. Don’t beat yourself up. Trust and listen to the doctors. We thank God everyday for them and our sweet and sassy Anniston!

Our girl was born at 34 weeks, due to pre-eclampsia with severe features (pre-eclampsia is a multi-system disorder characterized by the onset of high blood pressure and often a significant amount of protein in the urine). Although she only spent 12 days in the NICU, it felt like a lifetime traveling back and forth since we lived over an hour away. The nurses were absolute saints. The nurses supported me and her dad in every way. They answered all kinds of questions and gave us hope. I remember one day, it was just me and her. Our nurse tried her best to make it “feel” like we were at home. They were always cheering and celebrating each goal until it was time for her to come home. When she finally came home, her discharge nurse made me feel a little less scared.

Allison is now thriving in every way. She is such a happy baby. She is beating all the milestones that I was so scared of her not being able to meet. We will forever be grateful for the NICU at Baptist Womens.

We had been trying to conceive for 9 years. We had suffered 2 miscarriages and a preterm delivery loss (at 22 weeks) due to cervical insufficiency. This time we knew bed rest and a LONG hospital stay for me would be our likely outcome. Even with all the precautions and excellent care and staff, our David was born early at 29 weeks. He had a high APGAR score (this is a scoring system doctors and nurses use to assess newborns after they’re born. A score of 7 to 10 five minutes after birth is reassuring, 4 to 7 is moderately abnormal, and 0 to 3 is concerning) but we knew it would be a long road before we came home. He spent 55 days in the NICU. We were nervous and unsure what to expect at first, but every day that we came to see him we were greeted by reassuring smiles, health updates, and even some extra little things for our baby. One day we came in and the staff had opened up a colorful book next to our David’s incubator so that he could look at it when his eyes were open. We can’t say enough good things about our time in the antepartum, labor and delivery, and NICU units. Every nurse, caregiver, and doctor took extra care to see that we had the best outcome possible. On the days that were particularly rough, a nurse would give us a reassuring word or a hug to keep us encouraged. We would not be a family of three today without the amazing staff at Baptist Memorial Women’s Hospital.

With 52 nominations in 6 different departments Rachel Hill, PICU RN and Christina Irons, Labor and Delivery RN have won our DAISY Awards this quarter. Congrats to all the nominees and our WINNERS.... SARA and CHRISTINA!

Sara's patient had this to say about her: This nurse went above and beyond for my daughter. She advocated for her and made sure to take the best care possible. Her nursing skills are top notch and she is professional, works hard, and cares about her patients. She not only helped my daughter but helped me her mom to understand things I didn't and was patient with every request we made. I can't say enough good things about Rachel. She is one of a kind and the best peds nurse we have encountered (we've been admitted 3 times). She treated my daughter like her own and that speaks volumes of her.

Christina's patient had this to say about her: From the moment she walked in the door, Christina exuded empathy, care, concern, patience, understanding, comfort, knowledge, calmness, considerate, helpful, HONEST, gentle, kind, pleasant, polite, positive, relaxed, respectful, sensitive, sincere, thoughtful and loving.
Although I was handled by many staff members, Christina didn't handle me, she took care of me!
EMPATHY: She showed she cared about how I was feeling and what I was experiencing.
CONCERN: She expressed concern for my discomfort of the process
PATIENCE: She was extremely patient with me every stop of the way even when I was not so patient she never wavered.
UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWLEDGEABLE: She expressed understanding about what I was experiencing as a 1st time mom as well as explained everything she was doing and why.
CONSIDERATE: Helpful she was so considerate of my feelings when I was up and when I was down. She helped me navigate through my emotion and pain to remain calm.
GENTLE, KIND, PLEASANT, POLITE AND POSITIVE: She was extremely gentle in handling me every step of the way. Kind in words, pleasant with her actions, polite and positive when going through her daily, night routine as it relates to me and the baby.
RELAXED AND RESPECTFUL: She was extremely relaxed when things got tense which in return made me and my family relaxed. When others were just doing their jobs, she was respectful and treated me as a human, not a task.
SENSITIVE AND SINCERE: She was gentle with me and baby with every touch, every word spoken of encouragement throughout, you could tell she was sincere about her responsibilities.
THOUGHTFUL AND LOVING: She was so thoughtful with everything that she did. She thought about how it would affect baby and me, she was so loving in her mannerisms and duties.
HONEST: She was honest about everything that was happening, could happen, or may not happen. She explained everything very well!
Christine is truly and asset to your company. She is a true definition of a nurse!

Pam is a retired nurse, that continues to make a difference in the lives of others. As a volunteer, she is willing to serve in any capacity that she is needed at the hospital. Often times you can find her in our gift shop helping customers, assisting in unit patient care areas and delivering bibles.
