Haiti Medical Missions of Memphis is sad to announce that the 2022 24-hour tour d’esprit will not take place again this year.

Haiti Medical Missions of Memphis still supports Holy Spirit Clinic in Haiti. The compound remains active. We continue to provide care for the entire surrounding community

We thank you for your past support and hope that you continue to help us in the future.

We are sad to announce that because of the ongoing Covid pandemic, the 24 Hour Tour d'Esprit is officially cancelled again this year. We continue to see new active cases in Shelby County, both in the community and in the hospitals with many patients in ICU and on ventilators. We waited as long as possible to allow the pandemic to phase out so we could have the race, but that hasn't happened. Gathering together has the potential to spread more disease.

Second on the bad news front, there continues to be turmoil, chaos, and catastrophe in Haiti. The president was assassinated in July creating political instability. Meanwhile, the Covid pandemic has affected the population there as well. Approximately 500,000 doses of the vaccine were administered last month (1st shots) to a population of roughly 11 million.

If those problems were not enough, another devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Saturday 8/14, destroying a large area of the country near the city of Les Cayes. The death toll is already in the thousands and most certainly will climb in weeks to come. Hospitals were already overrun with Covid patients. Dr. Romel was in the clinic at the time of the quake and stated that there were no injuries and no damage to our facility. We thank God for that.

Again, if all of that is not enough, tropical storm Grace is predicted to hit the island this week, leading to flooding.

I have witnessed firsthand the incredible strength and resilience of the Haitian people. The manner in which they stick together and keep their faith through great difficulties is an inspiration.

They need our support more than ever. Although there will be no race, we ask that you continue to donate to this very needy cause. The church community, the running community, and the midsouth community at large have for so many years sustained the health care clinics (medical and dental), the rehab center, the well baby and nutrition clinics for the benefit of the patients and our staff who so desperately need our help.

2020 24-hour Tour d’esprit update.

It's been 10 years since the devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010. Haiti Medical Missions of Memphis is proud to say that Holy Spirit Clinic never ceased to be a resource for the community in Croix-des-bouquets. The good work goes on and we thank all of you for the continued support.

The 24-Hour Tour d’Esprit is in full swing. The weather is perfect! Come on out and get some miles in. The silent auction ends at 2:00PM and the race ends at 3:00PM.

Did you know that Klinik Sentespri is visited by more than 100 patients a day? In addition to regular office visits, the clinic hosts 4 groups of 35 for well baby clinics each Monday and has a vaccine program each Tuesday and Thursday.

A Matter of Timing

Thank you to everyone who shopped at the Tour d'Esprit auction! Winners will be called today and items can be picked up at the church between 10-2 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Don't miss the silent and live auctions at the Tour d'Esprit! Lots of unique items to choose from including Haitian Art, gift certificates, jewelry, plants, gift baskets, and good things to eat and drink! Auction begins Friday at 3 pm and ends Saturday at 2 pm. Live auction takes place Friday evening immediately following the pasta dinner. Come and bid on a weeks stay at Smith Lake, a Hot Air Balloon Ride, a Dinner for 6, Haitian Rum cakes every other month for a year! (plus a full size rum cake AND A BOTTLE OF 5 STAR HAITIAN RUM!) ..and other surprises!

Calling all Runners!!!!

The 20th annual 24 Hour Tour d’Espirit is coming up on Oct 5-6th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Start getting your team together. The Team captain meeting is Thursday Sept 6th at 6pm. You can register individually at racesonline.com Lets make this a record year for Haiti Medical Missions of Memphis.

Today we were able to go to the home of one of our spinal cord patients to build a ramp. Together we were able to give him the ability to go to and from his house independently. He and his family participated in the building. Always amazing what can happen when we come together in community. This few hours work brought new freedom to this young man.

Last week in therapy we had a community training on baby development and stimulation. Always wonderful to see our staff passionate about educating. We had lots of good sharing and participation from the community. Love that our clinic is not only meeting medical needs but works hard to promote prevention and education.

More pics from our first ever pediatric therapy training last week. All the students were engaged, sharing ideas, asking great questions and having fun as they learned. We hope to be able to do more trainings like this in the future!
