Audition Notice for A Bite of Memphis: The tastes and tales that tie us together.

Choose one date: Saturday, Nov. 18, 1-3pm or Sunday, Nov. 19, 3-5pm, 2023
Performances: February 16th to March 3rd, 2024

Casting: We are seeking a diverse cast of 7-12 actors of all races, ages, and gender identities. This show is a reflection of the rich tapestry of our community, and we encourage actors of all backgrounds to audition.

About the Show: “A Bite of Memphis” is an exciting community-oriented verbatim piece that delves into the heart and soul of Memphis by exploring the vibrant food culture of our city by interviewing chefs, restaurateurs, home cooks, food connoisseurs, and anyone who shares a passion for cooking and eating in Memphis. This production is a celebration of the flavors, stories, and traditions that make our city unique.

Audition Details: Please bring a headshot or recent photo and a performance resume. We are asking actors to come prepared to do cold readings and participate in some improv activities.

About Verbatim Theatre: Verbatim theatre is a unique journalistic form of dramatic storytelling that is grounded in the use of real-life, spoken words from interviews, testimonies, or recorded conversations. This form of theatre is deeply rooted in authenticity and strives to present an accurate and unbiased representation of real people and their experiences.

About the Director: Nathan Markiewicz is a filmmaker and stage director based in Austin, TX. He holds a BFA from the University of Colorado and an MFA from East 15, University of Essex. He recently directed rapper/storyteller Josh Raff’s off-Broadway play Love/Love, which was awarded best one-man-show at the 2022 UnitedSolo Festival. Austin DeVine is a Memphis-raised artist currently studying dramaturgy in Chicago, but he likes to participate in theatre in any ways he can. He loves finding opportunities to combine his love for music and theatre, which makes this a perfect project. He is so excited to make plays with such wonderful people (and also maybe a bit nervous to get it all done in 24 hours). When he can, Austin likes to focus his art on southern culture and transgender themes, and he is very passionate about fiber arts and committing to the bit. Recent shows include "Great Comet," "Matilda," "Fun Home," and "Peter Pan" at Playhouse on the Square; "Small Mouth Sounds" at New Moon; "Meeting Points" and "Squirrel Girl" at DePaul; and "Macbeth," "Guys and Dolls," and "Sondheim Tribute" at Theatre Memphis. Jay Lattimore is a Memphis native who is currently taking time off of school to enjoy life and enjoy theatre. He performed often in productions in high school, taking his talents to Illinois for college shortly after. After taking a few years off from acting in school, Jay recently returned to the stage in "Great Comet" at Playhouse on the Square, and is already hungry for more. He is incredibly grateful to be able to stretch his musical skills and work with so many talented and kind people. Jay is passionate about creating art that speaks to the heart, and finding absurdity to relish in along the way. When not on the stage, he can be found goofing around with his friends or hunting for his next baking endeavor.
