Honoring my Dad today...
20 yrs ago you left this earth, but never my heart. ❤️
To escape an abusive father, Dad took his two younger siblings and left home at 15. He got a job and put his brother and sister through high school, and began playing music professionally at 16. He later got his GED and attended ASU, where he formed the jazz program and the big band, The Tribe. He appeared on the Ed Sullivan show, played with Tony Bennett, Issac Hayes, among others, and in his later years traveled the world playing his music.

Dad taught me many things about life...he had a great sense of humor, taught me to see and appreciate nature, to notice the little things, to look for hawks and enjoy sunsets. He taught me to listen to the call of a whippoorwill, the phrasing of a voice in song and the rhythm of a drum. He taught me to persevere...that hard work pays off and to never give up. He was a good man of many perfections and many flaws, but he always did his best and expected that of others. He probably never knew he gave me these things...but for these gifts I am grateful.
