"When I was in my mid-40s and the world was pre-social media, a tennis pro handed me a flyer for a “Beginners Tennis Clinic”. After attending several clinics, I noticed I had extreme fatigue. A visit to the doctor exposed thyroid cancer, which would have never been detected in early stages without time on the court. I like to believe the pro who randomly handed me that flyer, and my new love, tennis, helped save my life.

Since my first year playing USTA as a 2.5 player, I have captained for 16 years. Watching my fellow teammates play is one of my greatest joys; they all strive to win and advance to the next levels of competition in every match. It is a player’s drive to succeed that motivates me as a captain. In every lineup, I strive for our collective team advancement and always ask myself, “What is best for the team as a whole?” because what is best for us all is what’s best for us individually. When people join our team, I want them to know they are joining a group that is fun, inviting, cohesive, and determined to achieve success together."

Calling all Memphis players! Come be a part of the Y-MOT TENNIS CLASSIC. We also had 13 additional teams from Memphis in different flights who fought hard this weekend as well!
