Student Council nominees made speeches at GSL this morning, and elected officers will be announced this afternoon. It's a brave thing to put yourself out there in this way, and we commend this outstanding group of nominees for their courage and leadership! They may be running against one another today, but these students are also good friends, and all will serve as elected officers or grade-level representatives on the 2024-25 Student Council. Way to go, Saints!
Inspiring article in the Daily Memphian about alumnus Charles Rowland. We are all very proud of him. ⚓
Conaway: This time, The Citadel saluted Dan Conaway writes about effort against odds, the measure being the effort itself, never accepting that there’s no sense in trying and more.
GSL School celebrates an important milestone - our Preschool Centennial! - at historic Miss Lee's this year. We are excited to share some fun photos and artifacts this fall to showcase the original Miss Lee's School of Childhood from its beginnings, to when it was acquired by GSL, to today! We believe this photo dates back to Miss Lee's founding year 1924 (or very close) as authenticated by current GSL teacher Elizabeth Bayzie. Her grandfather B.T. Hunt appears in this photo (center, black blazer and dark tie). And fun fact: B.T. Hunt’s grandchildren Will '99 and Emily ’02 also attended Miss Lee’s and GSL, as well as his great-grandchildren John Wyatt ’28 and James ’34. What an incredible legacy!
Did you know that our historic Miss Lee's Preschool has a birthday bell? The Bell Tower was installed years ago thanks to a philanthropic gift from Mr. and Mrs. W. Hamilton Smythe III. Our preschoolers look forward to ringing it on their birthday... and Little Luker Henry was among the first to try it out this year! 🥳🎂🔔
Middle School fall sports are underway at GSL, and we already have some W’s under our belt! We are currently fielding teams in football, girls soccer, tennis, golf, volleyball, cheerleading, and cross country, and we’re proud of all of our student-athletes and their progress to date. Looking forward to a great season for the Saints! ⚓🏈🏐⛳📣⚽🎾🎽⚓

Sharing a great for you this week: Big shout-out to our 8th graders, who were also part of our very first class of Little Lukers at GSL! Thought we'd share the original class group photos and a few candids from that special 2013-14 school year. ❤️⚓🥰
In case you missed the news, GSL has brought longtime 4th Grade teacher Jane Williams out of retirement - for the second time! - to take the reins again in 4th grade during Katie Searle's maternity leave. This week she's held a writing conference with every student, talking with them each of them about their writing samples, the importance of reading, and more.
We have some big things going on this year at GSL! Not only are we welcoming our first-ever 18-month-old Little Saints classes to campus, we also celebrate the fact that our first 2-year-old Little Lukers - launched wayyyy back in 2013 - are now 8th graders!!! But wait, there's more... we also celebrate the Centennial Anniversary of the historic Miss Lee's Campus - acquired by GSL in 1986, but founded in 1924. Stay tuned for more details! 😊⚓🎂❤️
Happy first day of the 2024-2025 school year! We are looking forward to a GREAT year!
Happy First Day, Saints!
It's a GSL tradition for faculty and staff to start the school year with an Opening Eucharist, and Father Ollie prepared a beautiful service for us today. He talked about St. Luke, and grace, and the importance of sharing our gifts to make the world a better place! ❤️ Grace-St. Luke's Episcopal Church
Cheers to the GSL Class of 2020! We have missed them, we are so proud of them, and we loved seeing them this week for GSL's annual College Sendoff Party. After a fun lunch and our photo opp, many of them stayed to visit former teachers and roam campus, from Preschool to Lower School to Middle School! 🥰 Can't wait to see what they accomplish in their next chapters!
We are off and running to get ready for the opening of school at GSL, and this week that included orientation sessions for all of our new full-time faculty and staff members! We are delighted to have these folks join the community - Go, Saints!
Our Head of School, Dr. Andy Surber, has a BIG birthday today so please wish him well if you see him... today he turns 50! Happy birthday, Andy!!! GSL loves you! 🎉❤️⚓👏🤩
PS: That's a great number - and you're still waaayyy younger than our school (75+) and the Miss Lee's Campus (100 this year!)

First graders (and faculty and fellow art teachers) show some love for Lower School Art Teacher Carol Buchman before her last day at GSL. ❤️ She's been a mainstay of our Fine Arts program for 27 years, and we wish her a very happy retirement! ⚓
Just a few more scenes from our 8th Grade Alumni Luncheon this week! It's so bittersweet to have to say goodbye, but we're excited for this group to become Saints alumni after tomorrow's Graduation ceremonies! ⚓❤️
Dr. Cary Fowler is also a GSL alumnus! He attended grade school here from Kindergarten through 4th in the late 1950s; school founder Lorena Webber Walker was one of his teachers! This is an immense and well-deserved honor for the work he has done, and we extend our congratulations!
Cary Fowler and his seed vault partner to receive World Food Prize Cary Fowler, a 1967 graduate of White Station High, and Geoffrey Hawtin created the “doomsday vault,” an underground seed storage facility built in the Svalbard Archipelago in Norway, 600 miles from the North Pole.
Excited for this Saints alumna - Zelia Cedeño-Avila recently learned that she received a full scholarship to Vanderbilt, where she will pursue engineering. Way to go, Zelia!
