Here is a recap of today's exciting 1-0 win over the Milwaukee Jaguars. Adam took the ball on the mound, going all 7 innings, giving up 0 runs on only 2 hits with 1 walk and 7 strike outs. He and Danny were on the same page, as he seldom shook off anything that was put down. This is a very good hitting team, and he kept them off the barrel for the whole game.

Their pitching was also very good, as we scored 1 unearned run, on 3 hits with 2 walks and 3 stolen bases. Their 1st guy gave up the unearned run by walking Nick, who then stole 2nd and 3rd. On the steal of third, the catcher threw it into left field, allowing the run to score. Josh had a hit. Adam had a hit. Nolan had a walk. Henry had a hit and a stolen base. You don't win many games with those numbers on offense, but you can if you pitch well and play good defense.

Defense was good today, as we did commit 1 error. I have to say that this is the hardest part of my job as scorekeeper. Nick played short today, and there was a grounder behind the bag at 2nd. He got a good jump on it, was in a great position to throw the runner out, and the ball ticked off the heal of his glove. He still almost threw the runner out, and if I hadn't seen him make that play more than 100 times, I might not have given him an error. The breaks of having your dad score.

This was a all around, well played game. Alonso always has his guys ready to play, and today was no exception. They were good, but we were just a bit better. See you around the ballpark.

Lakers win an exciting game over the Milwaukee Jaguars by the final score of 1-0. Adam with the 2 hit, complete game, shut out. Recap to follow

Here is a recap of today's 7-6 win over Merton. Glavine Matthes started, going 3 strong innings, giving up no runs on a hit with 4 strike outs and a hit batter. He threw very well against a team that could hit the ball. Tyler threw the next 3, giving up 2 runs, 1 earned on 4 hits with 3 walks and 4 strike outs. Drew started the 7th, giving up 4 runs, 3 earned on 4 hits. Nick gets the win, giving up no runs on 3 hits with a walk and 3 strike outs.

Offense was good, as we scored 7 runs on 10 hits, including a double with 7 walks and 2 stolen bases. Nick had a hit and a walk, stole a base and scored 2 runs. Josh had a hit and scored 2 runs. Danny had a hit and 2 walks and scored a run. Jason had the big stick with 3 hits, including a double, scored a run and drove in 2. Adam had a hit and a walk. Alex had 2 hits, including the winning run driven in. Nolan had 2 walks and stole a base. Dan Rueth had a walk and scored a run. Eric had a hit.

Defense was good today, as we had 2 errors that allowed 2 unearned runs, but had some really good plays to go with them. We turned a couple of double plays that started with a guy I like to give a hard time to about being the elder on the team. Jason was playing 1st, and with a runner on 1st, snagged a bullet of a line drive just off the ground, allowing him to tag 1st for a double play. I thought, now that was a really nice play, but Jason said, "hold my beer," as he set up the next play. They had a runner on 3rd with 1 out when the batter hit a foul ball down the 1st base line. Jason was off at the crack of the bat, made an over the shoulder basket catch, turned and threw it in to Tyler, who fired to Nolan for the double play at 3rd. I have no idea where the runner was going, but that ended the inning. Really nice work.

I look at the overall record of the Merton team, and I will tell you this, it is very deceiving. They are a well managed, young and hungry team that is only going to get better. They pitched well, hit well and did everything right except win the game. A good game all around.

Tomorrow we are at home against the Milwaukee Jaguars, who won 2 games today. Noon start for a 7 inning game. See you around the ballpark!

Lakers drop last night's game to Kewaskum by the final score of 8-1. I saw an update posted by the other team that said something about a blow out win over the Lakers, but a game that was 2-1 until the top of the 8th is anything but a blow out, so we'll take the high road here. Upon further review, that was an auto generated headline by Game Changer, and not by the team. I should have known, as MOST on that team have more class than that!
Drew Schreihart started, going 5 strong innings, giving up 2 runs, 1 earned on 4 hits with 2 walks and 5 strike outs. He held a really good hitting team in check for a very nice outing. Tyler took over from there, going 3 innings, giving up 4 earned runs, on 2 hits with 5 strike outs and 6 walks. He was working in a steady rain, so conditions weren't ideal for a pitcher. I will only bring up the plate umpire as part of a bit of humor. After he called a strike on one of our batters that was at least chin high, the next words I heard from him was, "Sorry about that!" Enough about that.
Eric Beauchamp tossed the 9th, giving up 2 earned runs on 1 hit with 2 walks and 1 strike out.

Their pitching was good, as we ended the night with 4 hits, 5 walks, 3 stolen bases and 1 sac fly. We also hit several balls hard that were caught. Nolan put 1 to the fence in the deepest part of the park, and Nick hit a screaming line drive with 2 on base that the 1st baseman climbed the ladder to snag. Knock it off, Sean!

Nick walked 2 times and had a stolen base. Luke beat out an infield single with his speed and stole a base. Nolan stung the ball several times, but couldn't find the grass. Colin had a ringing double to the fence in left and scored the only run. Josh walked and reached on an error. Aaron walked and had a sac fly. Alex had a hit. Adam reached on an error. Eric had a walk and a stolen base. Tyler had a base hit.

Defense was good, as we ended up with 1 error, but made several nice plays in less than perfect conditions. Early in the game, Eric, who was playing 2nd base, went hard behind 2nd to backhand a ball. He had a little bobble, and just missed throwing out the runner. As the scorekeeper, it becomes a judgement call at that point. If he picks it clean, does he throw him out? I scored it a base hit for a couple of reasons. I thought going away from 1st, and the speed of the baserunner made it a hit. And let's be honest, Rosey is 1 of my favorite players in the game! Anyway, later in the game, same play but even harder and he throws out the runner by 2 steps. Nice play gets the out. Nolan was really good at 1st base, picking several out of the dirt to save errors and record the out. Alex caught a couple balls at the fence in right.

It's usually a fun game when these teams get together, because they know each other well from playing on different teams. I thought there was a real sportsmanship moment in the game. When Colin hit his double, it was down the line in left. The plate ump called it a foul ball, when it was clearly a fair ball. Mike, who was catching, and also happens to coach Colin, told the ump that he was wrong and that the ball was fair. The ump went out to the field ump and overturned the call. Very nice, Mike Aiello!

Looks like we will get a rematch at some point in the future for some more fun. A well managed game by Jimmy, gets them round 1. See you around the ballpark.

As promised, here is your recap. Lakers win against the Milwaukee Beavers under the lights by a final sore of 13-5. Tyler Danko started, going 5 innings, giving up 4 runs earned on 5 hits with 4 walks and 7 strike outs. Glavine Matthes went the final 4, giving up 1 earned run on 3 hits with 3 walks and 6 strike outs. Both threw very well against a team that can score some runs. Danny worked them through the lineup from behind the plate, and kept them in a good rhythm.

Offense was good as we scored 13 runs on 14 hits with 4 walks and 3 hit batters. Nick had a single, a walk, reached on an error, stole a base and scored 3 runs. Aaron Goecks had a 3 run home run. Luke Wroblewski had a single and a double, stolen base, was hit by a pitch (hbp) and scored 3 runs. Danny had 3 hits, stole a base, scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Ryan Dominick had the big stick, as he had a walk and 4 hits, including 2 doubles, drove in 4 runs and scored 2. Jason Kalman had a double, sac fly and drove in 2 runs. Donnie Meurer had a hit and a walk, and drove in a run. Colin Indermuehle had a walk and hit the ball hard, but right at fielders. Zimmy was hbp. Henry Hansen had a hit and a stolen base. Nolan Hodgins was hbp and scored a run.

Defense was really good tonight, as we did have 1 error on a throw that allowed a run to score, but also made several nice plays. Our middle infield the last 2 games has turned some nice double plays. Doesn't seem to matter if it's Jordan or Colin at 2nd, they both work really well to keep runners close and feed Ryan for some good force outs or double plays.

Always good to get a win in a divisional game. I asked Adam when was the last time he had 15 guys show up on a Friday night at the start of a 3 day weekend. His response, 2000 and never! Good to see a bunch of guys who want to play ball!

Last thing. iScore was having some issues last night, so I had to try to recreate the game based on what stats I had. If you see something that you think is incorrect, please let me know and I will look into it. You can email me at [email protected]. Enjoy the 3 day weekend, and thank you to all that paid the ultimate price, as we honor them this Memorial Day. RIP soldier, your work here is done

Congratulations to Troy J Kenkel, MD on his recent graduation from medical college. Now when Jason goes down with an injury, or Joe takes a line drive to the head while in the dugout, or Kurt takes a Kenkel fastball to the face, when they ask, "is there a doctor in the house?" We can say, there sure is!
