THIS IS ONLY A DRILL! UC Merced will be hosting a multi-agency public safety exercise from approximately 6 a.m. – 5 p.m. this Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Kolligian Library building. As this is a full-scale simulated event, there will be loud noises, lights and sirens, and high activity around the area of the simulation. Participation in these types of drills will help hone our skills, develop relationships, and keep our Bobcat community safe. Please be assured this is a simulated activity and should there be an actual campus emergency you will be notified via the UCM Alert system.

The UC Merced Police Department welcomes our newest police dispatcher Andrew Gallagher was born and raised in Merced, and a graduate of Merced High School. He continued his education at Merced College, eventually graduating from Fresno State University. Dispatcher Gallagher enjoys baseball, personal finance, and learning about history. In the Spring of 2023, Dispatcher Gallagher married his wife Melanie, a UC Merced alumnus from the inaugural class.
Dispatcher Gallagher joins the UC Merced community with four years of experience serving the residents of Merced County as a Dispatcher, and over eight years of combined experience with the Sheriff’s Office. He was a third-generation employee at the Merced County Sheriff’s Office, where his Grandfather, Father, and Brother all served as Deputy Sheriff’s. In the Fall of 2023, Dispatcher Gallagher applied to UC Merced to use his talents in the role of UC Merced Public Safety Dispatcher to serve, assist, and protect our students, faculty, and visitors. Dispatcher Gallagher works hard to keep both the community he serves and the Officers he works with safe, prioritizing that everybody arrives home safely at the end of his shifts.
Dispatcher Gallagher was a member of the peer support team at the Merced County Sheriff’s Office, and is always willing to listen to anybody facing struggles in their life. His personal mission when choosing a career as a Dispatcher was to be the voice on the other end of the phone that provided hope in the caller’s greatest time of need, or a solution to their frustrations or concerns. Dispatcher Gallagher will continue to fulfill that personal mission and is excited to begin his journey at UC Merced. He is grateful for the opportunity to join this talented team and welcoming community!
Officer Rosales and Officer Valadez were on patrol last night and stopped to talk to a group of UC Merced students. These students had lots of questions, were interested in our patrol vehicles and wanted to know about some of our equipment we use. The students were most excited about being able to sit in a police patrol vehicle for the first time.
UC Merced Officers take pride in not only keeping the campus safe but also in keeping the students and staff informed.
