Nomad/Camping/Overlanding women on a budget product review and more
Idaho born and raised. Army Vet, Mother of a U.S. Marine Vet. Experienced Camper, Outlanding newbie
Wow it’s been a minute. Camping and Overlanding In Idaho/Oregon was almost non existent.
Due to fires, dense smoke and restrictions, I’d pack the rig, camper and unpack the next day.
I promised you some reviews so I will start uploading some.
Stay safe, stay cool.
The season has started and so have the forest critters (especially bears and c***s). This is my go to for left over food, wrappers and anything that attracts. Inexpensive, reuseable as well. I line it with a plastic grocery bag for easy disposal. Amazon.
Took equipment out and rush it back in. Went from sun to rain and then snur. Hurry up spring I have some cool equipment to review!!! Oh….let’s throw in a small earthquake in that equation.
Welcome new members to the page. Weather is changing here in Idaho and that means I can get into my garage without freezing. New reviews coming soon, so stay tune!
Are you currently in “snow weather”? Just a helpful hint. Make sure you are not running your tire pressure at non winter numbers. Winter weather you should have a lower PSI to help with traction. It’s the same as when you are on loose dirt, gravel, mud and sand travel. You can go to any tire shop to adjust. Helpful hints. (Picture is max air down, but you get the logic behind lower air pressure)
Coming down steady in Meridian, Idaho. Close to 8” so far today. Hope you all are staying put, safe and warm. Got my buddy heater as a back up in case.
Front and Side walls are back on sale after contacting company about the price hike. Get these while they last! The actual awning is great and afforable. I’ve had mine for a couple of years with no issues and easy install.
ALL-TOP Awning Wall (Side), 6.6ft x 9.5ft, PU3000mm Waterproof Windbreak Extension for Vehicle Awning, UV50+ for Extra Sun Shade and Privacy
Hope everyone had an awesome Holiday!! Amazon has some great deals on outdoor items. I just picked up a front wall for my awning for $15! I have the alltop awning. Its durable, easy to install (on my aftermarket roof rack) and now I get even more coverage with the side wall. Now’s the time to buy!
Let’s talk heat for those in colder area’s. What products do you use that keep you toasty? I have two items in mind. 1) diesel heater which is lower cost in fuel but a bit noisy 2) Mr. Buddy heater on a 30 gallon propane tank adapter (cost cheaper to refill than those green disposable ones). Anyone try the candle and clay pot method?
Was starting to review some new hair clippers and first cut this happened. Didn’t have glasses on and got to close. With that being said lol…this set is sharp. So how do YOU maintain hair while on extended adventures? (I’m still laughing).
Let’s talk about keeping warm. I currently use a -5c/23f battery power sleeping bag by Kings Trek. Bought on Amazon last spring for $70 on sale. Weighing in at 4.4lbs, its flannel lining is warm enough even without turning it on. Has elastic straps to wrap around my cot as well. It was about 40 degrees outside when I used it on low setting and that lasted about 9 hrs. 2nd day on high was about 6 hours. (Turned my buddy heater on after that). It’s a super warm bag! Don’t be fooled by it’s thinness. I charged the battery up on my 60w portable solar panel. Took about 4 hours on a sunny day. Regular charge (outlet) took about an hour and half. Not bad. Totally recommend.

I know we have a lot of military veterans in our community and every penny counts. Here’s a great website for discounts, free concert tickets, shows and sport games across the 50 states. I’ve been to ton’s of events with my family (up to 4 tickets). Non-profit organization. Thank you all for serving!
Veteran Tickets Foundation Vet Tix provides event tickets to our Military, Honorably Discharged Veterans and family members of troops Killed in Action.
Overlanding season up here in Idaho is winding down due to rain and snow. Now I have time to start reviewing more budget friendly items. What products would you like to see reviewed before you buy?
Amazon Prime days starts tomorrow? What’s on your list that you would love to share?
What’s your favorite item you just can’t camp without? And why?
Mine is my 6 year old single burner coleman butane stove. Easy carry and reliable. Walmart bought at the time for about $10 clearance. Currently running for about $20-$25.
The page is still alive lady adventurers! Unfortunately my outdoor season came to a halt due to a knee replacement. But please post your reviews or how you are going to keep warm this winter. Thank you!
Got a product you want to review? Post it on this site. Let’s get this rolling to share with all and expand our knowledge. Thank you! Tread lightly.
Review on Kick Ass shower tent. Started with a video but was interrupted several times lol. I am heading to the Sawtooths in two weeks and will video my whole Overlanding set up.
This model runs about $169 on Amazon and the premium $269. Tge premium has floor and top and maybe a tad bigger. Honestly not worth the extra $100.
If you have flat cross bars with channels, the L brackets (included) will fit nicely, but if you have a round bar roof rack, the L brackets only work if you drill another hole and attach with a 2 inch Ubolt. I added some shrink tube on Ubolt for extra protection. Becareful tightening the slide bolts on back of tent. Its aluminum and will bend if over tightening.
Has two strong zippers (nice if you want to padlock it). The out material is strong (its been thru car wash several times). The tent is rolled up and secured by two velcro straps. Becareful unstrapping as tent just drops to floor. Two aluminum side bar extend and lock out. Kind of wobbly but not bad. The tent extends out with them. Ajustable straps to make the tent height to your liking. Comes with corner stakes (i bought more heavy duty ones). The door zipper is nice and has another small window zipper if you want to reach in your car window and get towel or whatever. I bought a shower foam mat yo keep feet clean and not on dirt.
To store back is easy. Unstake corners, fold in side bars, roll up, attach velcro straps and zip. Im thinking of making my own too from tan tarp material. KickAss doesnt sell top separate, which is a bummer. $169 is a good buy for the convenience. I have a waterport 5 gallon pressurized tank (last picture) that has a shower hose. It extends perfectly to tent.
It will be much undisturbed taping when I head out. Enjoy your trips, tread lightly and post your reviews as well! Thank you!
Finally installed the kickAss shower tent and All-Top awning. Had to improvise with brackets (not tube friendly) but made it work. Video coming later today if wind calms down. (21 CRV ex, 265/60/18 open range AT tires w/ Method 502 Wheels) no lift no rub.
Weather (except the dang wind)is FINALLY warming up enough to get some outdoor reviews recorded. Top of the list is: KickAss Bathroom Tent, Alltop awning, JoyTutus SUV tent, 3 different types of stoves and portable solar panels. These are the most talked about gear lately, but my list is long on other items. If you have something you want to request before you buy, drop it in comments and either I have it or I’ll find it. Thanks all and pray for a safe melt off in the mountains!
Thanks for stopping by. This page will soon be updating with my personal reviews on gear for camping, nomad living, overlanding and car/suv traveling. Of course everything is focused on keeping more of your money in your wallet. You may see some posts/videos on simple cooking and easy car maintenance as well.
This page is for everyone, but more specific to women from a woman’s perspective. Enjoy and remember this is just my personal opinion on products and I will let you know if it’s a paid review in advance.
