Thanks to Idaho Transportation Department and all its employees for the hard work they put in to keep our roads open and in great shape! 🙏🙌💯

March kicked off an internal photo contest for all ITD employees to share photos and tell the department's story.

We received several outstanding photos that did just that, but the winner was this photo taken by Dakota of the Galena Summit avalanche clean-up.

The photo captures the tireless efforts of the crews who worked for 31 hours straight to clear the road after the slide hit SH-75, covering it up to 20 feet deep in places. The slide occurred on March 15th, 2023.

Dakota has worked at ITD for 6 ½ years. "My favorite part of the job is I really enjoy the work we do. I would have to say my absolute favorite thing is snow removal. I have a great team and enjoy working with all of them."

UPDATE: TERMINATION OF BOIL WATER ORDER. Test results confirm that the water is safe to drink. Samples taken yesterday confirm that there was no contamination to the water and the order was out of an abundance of caution. We appreciate the public's patience as we worked through this issue.

DRINKING WATER WARNING
BOIL WATER ADVISORY - TAP WATER IN THE FOLLOWING SUBDIVISIONS MUST BE BOILED PRIOR TO DRINKING.
Fairoaks, Stonecreek, Mariah Court, Woodbury Estates, Beechwood, Ison Court, Michala Court, Starlight Park, Starlight Manor, Green Acres Subdivisions, and the Caldwell YMCA.
As a precaution, please be advised that you must boil tap water for three minutes before drinking or use bottled water until notice from the City that confirming that the water is safe to drink.
What Happened?
On March 27, city crews closed water valves as part of a scheduled outage. Additional valves were unexpectedly found to be closed so that the planned valve closures lead to a loss of water pressure in the mainlines supplying to the locations listed above. The pressure loss was discovered and resolved over a period of about two hours.
Possible Health Effects.
A mainline pressure drop has the potential to create an unsafe drinking water condition. Low mainline pressures pose the risk of drawing in bacteria or contamination from household water supply plumbing or other connected water system elements through backflow. Drinking water contaminated with bacteria or other possible contaminants associated with this incident could make you sick.
Steps We Are Taking.
A chlorine disinfection residual is maintained that is intended to protect drinking water safety if intrusion of potentially contaminated water by backflow occurs. Mainlines are being flushed at fire hydrants and water samples have been taken to validate drinking water safety. We will inform you when sample results verify that your tap water is again safe to drink. For more information, please contact City of Caldwell Water Dept.
