Not sure exactly what a gloss is or why you may want/need one? First let’s look at what glosses are-
Glosses
👻 leave your hair shiny and, well, glossy!
👻 manipulate hair by either enhancing, neutralizing or deepening color
👻 are the same as a glaze or a toner, just different verbiage
👻 are demi-permanent and last 6-8 weeks before needing to be refreshed

Why you might want one
👻 you got a blonding service done and the raw lift from the lightener isn’t your jam
👻 you need a refresh of your previous color
👻 you want to add glossiness and shine to your hair. Glosses don’t need to change/alter the tone of your hair, they can simply be clear to add that oomph!
👻 you want to go a bit darker or change up your look a bit but don’t want a big commitment
👻 you’re feeling really brassy and want to cool the tone down
👻 you feel like warming your hair up a bit
👻 you want to blend your grays
And so many more!

What glosses won’t do
👻 make your hair lighter
👻 100% cover grays (demi-permanent color is a great way to blend grays, but it’s almost like putting tights on VS leggings, they will still show through but they will be less noticeable)
👻 give you a harsh line as your hair grows out (some gray blending CAN have a line as it grows, but it’s not as intense)

My usual golden blondie wanted to amp it up for fall by using 9G, 9AA and 8C to create this beautiful strawberry blonde! A hint of copper without the commitment!

What’s her maintenance like?
🔮 she’s been loving the rooted look so in the next 8-10 weeks we’ll do a face frame blonding session to keep it fresh and intentional. Once her root is over 2-4”, we’ll do a partial to bring it back up again
🔮 washing in cooler water and using a color safe shampoo to extend the life of her gloss
🔮 4-6 glossing appointments to refresh the gloss

This guest hadn’t been in since January and told me to do whatever I wanted so I broke up her line of demarcation from her previous blonding service and used 7 to hand paint and give her a very soft and blended look for fall!

What’s her maintenance like?
The blend and softness means I won’t need to see her for 4-6 months except for a gloss every 10 weeks or so since she only washes her hair about 1-2x a week!

From lived-in blonde to lived-in bronde!

We started by refreshing her money piece, then weaved through the hair to bring in lots of dimension and finishing with a root melt and gloss toned with 8WG, 8GG, 8C, 8VRo and a cap of 7GB

What’s the maintenance like? Gloss every 6-10 weeks but she won’t need more than that for at least 4 months!

📢PSA- Wet hair looks darker than dry hair!📢

I have had those moments when I’M the client and sheer panic sets in once I see my hair after it’s glossed and before it’s dried, thinking “ohhhhh nooooo that’s dark.” But once it’s dried, it’s always so much lighter and I couldn’t be happier!

Wet hair can look 1-2 levels darker than it really is. Here is a visual from one of my lovely clients to demonstrate how different it is!

Now that it’s not raining everyday and we can enjoy some pool time, it’s important to remember that chlorine CAN and usually WILL turn blonde hair green! Follow the steps above (so simple too!) to avoid that green tint! Happy swimming all!
P.S. before coming in for your next blonding service, please make sure to wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo a couple times if your hair has been in chlorinated pools- lightener+chlorine=bad chemical reaction

What do you do when your wedding is coming up? Well, lots of things, but in this case you get your hair done! My client wanted dimension to make her updo pop but didn’t want anything chunky or stripy and wanted to neutralize the reddish/brassy tones in her hair. Show this bride-to-be some love!

Artificial redhead? I won’t tell but your at home products and routine might- Here’s some tips to keep your color looking fresh!
🔮 Invest in good products. You’ve already invested in your hair, now invest in insurance! Color protecting shampoos and conditioners are essential for reds and coppers because these can fade quickly
🔮 Ask me for a color balm! A color balm is essentially a color depositing conditioner but it’s customized to you because I’ll be mixing it for you! (Not a great option if you plan on being anything other than red anytime soon)
🔮 If possible, wash your hair less and if you’re on the hunt for a good dry shampoo, I love Berlin Dry Shampoo
🔮 Keep up with maintenance appointments- I’d usually recommend every 4-6 weeks, maybe 4-8 weeks but it depends
🔮 Use heat protectant always, or even limit heat styling as much as possible! Heat can actually cause the color to fade

I don’t always do vivid but when I do it’s usually on this gal and as low maintenance as a vivid can be by incorporating the natural color!

How often does this need to be refreshed?
For the purple and blue- between 6 and 8 weeks
For the lightening- between 3 and 6 months

Straight hair shows less of that dimension but boy does it looks so smooth and well blended! Get yourself a color that slays no matter if you wear it straight or wavy!

Want to enhance your natural red? Some strategically places teasylights and highlights can give it a real pop!

With a look like this, subtly is the best to enhance your natural color instead of dominate it. For maintenance-
🔮6-8 weeks- gloss to refresh
🔮3-4 months- either a partial or face framing highlights

🔮maintenance- colors like this fade fast so it’s important to keep up with glosses at least every 4-6 weeks
🔮the less you wash, the better
🔮your hair will need to lift very very light for a color like this to really work so consider using some k18 before, during and after your appointment to keep it healthy!

Wanna know how to maintain colors like this?
🔮wash in cooler/cold water- it sucks but it definitely helps it fade less as you wash. Bonus points for going longer in between washes too
🔮use a color protecting shampoo- Amika the Vault has honestly blown me away with its effectiveness at prolonging color
🔮use a heat protectant- heat can alter your hair color, so it’s best to protect it at all stages of heat styling
🔮understand that color does fade, specially color like this and that’s normal- schedule regular (6-8 weeks) maintenance appointments to refresh the color

Why might you want to go lived-in?
🔮 lower maintenance- sure I may see you every 6-10 weeks or so for a gloss/refresh, but I won’t need to do any lightening/foiling for at least 4 months
🔮 as it grows out, you’ll barely notice! Because of how it’s done, there are no harsh lines of demarcation (unless you have 100% gray coverage that we do with your color)
🔮 even with vivid color, you get a more natural look
