Floaters and Flashes in My Vision – When Do I Seek Attention?

As we get older, our vitreous (clear substance that fills the inside of the eye) starts to shrink and thicken and can pull away from the back of the eye, it is called Posterior Vitreous Detachment. You may experience “floaters,” small specks, dots, circles, or lines, or “flashes,” flashing lights or lightning streaks in your field of vision. These floaters and flashes are common as people age, are not serious, and tend to fade or go away over time. Usually, a patient will not need treatment or surgery. If you experience a lot of new floaters or flashes, a shadow appears in your side vision, or a gray curtain-like shadow covers part of your vision, you must see an Ophthalmologist right away because these can be signs of a more serious problem. These floaters and flashes can be symptoms of a torn or detached retina. This condition needs to be treated. Our ophthalmologists are well prepared to diagnose and treat your specific needs! Visit our website at www.YourEyeClinic.com or give us a call at (321) 453-3937 for further details and to schedule your consultation today.

Myopia (Nearsightedness)

Nearsightedness or Myopia is a very common condition in which you cannot see objects far away from you clearly, but you can see objects close to you. This occurs when the shape of your eye causes light rays to bend incorrectly, focusing images in front of your retina instead of ON your retina. A simple eye exam can show if you are nearsighted. Eyeglasses, contact lenses, LASIK surgery or Photorefractive Keratectomy laser surgery can usually correct this problem. At the Eye Clinic & Laser Institute, we treat a wide variety of conditions. Our ophthalmologists are well prepared to diagnose and treat your specific needs! No matter your age, don’t delay! Visit our website at www.YourEyeClinic.com or give us a call at (321) 453-3937 for further details and to schedule your consultation today.

Astigmatism Causes Blurred Vision

If you have Astigmatism, the cornea is shaped more like a football instead of like a baseball, so when light passes through the cornea the image cannot focus on the retina and it causes blurred vision. Eyeglasses or contact lenses can correct most causes of Astigmatism. In more severe cases, LASIK and PRK surgery can change the shape of your cornea and restore your vision. For people who suffer from both Astigmatism and Cataracts, surgery is available to correct both issues at once! Your eye surgeon may recommend a toric IOL that replaces the eye's natural lens and helps correct astigmatism at the same time. Our ophthalmologists are well prepared to diagnose and treat your specific needs! Visit our website at www.YourEyeClinic.com or give us a call at (321) 453-3937 for further details and to schedule your consultation today.

Diabetic Macular Edema

Macular Edema is the most common reason why people with Diabetes lose their vision. When the Diabetic eye is in its early stages of the disease, tiny blood vessels leak, making the retina swell. Treatments depend on a doctor's evaluation of your eyes but may include Medicine to help reduce swelling of the macula, slowing vision loss, and possibly improving vision.

Laser surgery can also be used to seal off leaking blood vessels, reduce swelling of the retina, and help shrink blood vessels and prevent them from growing again. Our ophthalmologists are well prepared to diagnose and treat your specific needs! Visit our website at www.YourEyeClinic.com or give us a call at (321) 453-3937 for further details and to schedule your consultation today.
