A look into what the Gobble Wobble funds are supporting this year. The DHS Swim Team is completely responsible for raising funds to heat the pool. Tomorrow is the deadline to order shirts, follow this link: https://forms.gle/9NftFGPYq41aHpsg9
We are so grateful for our Durham community, without you we would not be able to make this program happen!

See you all next week🦃

DHS Swimming is so grateful to have been selected as the Animal House Gobble Wobble fundraiser recipient this year. We invite you to come on Thanksgiving morning and get your wobble on before your Thanksgiving dinner. These awesome t-shirts are $30 with a portion of the proceeds going to our team to help pay for our heating bill next year. DHS Swim is solely responsible for paying our pool rental and heating bill, without fundraisers and generous donations from local businesses we would not be able to have a team! There will also be a raffle, if you would like to donate to it please text Heidi @ (530)864-0809. I hope to see many of you on Thanksgiving!

Order your shirt here: https://forms.gle/9NftFGPYq41aHpsg9

It was an eventful last practice today! We started by supporting one of our team captains, Gracie, as she officially committed to swimming for Asbury University next year. Then we got to take our team picture (thank you Andrea Messina!!). At our team dinner this week we passed around cards for each swimmer and each teammate wrote down what they admired about that individual. They received their cards today and with that there were lots of laughs, and some bittersweet tears. Tomorrow we head to Shasta College for Masters. I am super excited!🏊‍♀️💙

Lots of exciting things happening this week, including our Swim-A-Thon happening THIS Thursday! We fundraise every year for utility costs of heating our beautiful pool. Our swimmers have done a great job and continue to get flat rate and per lap sponsors and we would LOVE to give them a little more incentive with some top earner gift cards. Would anyone or any businesses want to pitch in towards or sponsor any of the following amounts at any of the following places?

$50 Gift Card for Top Money Earner
$25 Gift Card for Runner Up
$15 Gift Card Third Place Earner

Please call or text LeeAnn if you'd like to help us on this, thanks so much! 530-521-5772

Never quit!
This is Jim Thorpe. my daddy talked about him my entire life. He was the first native America to ever win gold in the Olympics. He went on to have a career in baseball and football.
Look closely at the photo, you can see that he's wearing different socks and shoes. This wasn't a fashion statement. It was the 1912 Olympics, and Jim, a Native American from Oklahoma represented the U.S. in track and field.

On the morning of his competitions, his shoes were stolen. Luckily, Jim ended up finding two shoes in a garbage can. That's the pair that he's wearing in the photo. But one of the shoes was too big, so he had to wear an extra sock. Wearing these shoes, Jim won two gold medals that day. This is a perfect reminder that you don't have to resign to the excuses that have held you back.

So what if life hasn't been fair? What are you going to do about it today? Whatever you woke up with this morning; stolen shoes, ill health, failed relationships, failed business, don't let it stop you from running your race. You can experience more in life if you'll get over the excuses and get on with living. You can have Excuses are you can have success...but you can't have both. God has a purpose and a plan for your life sometimes we don’t see it, sometimes it doesn’t follow the plan that we have, but never the less he is there and will turn all things for the good just call upon him.
Thanks to the mission church for this wonderful story

For the last month our swimmers have been doing early morning dryland practices two days a week in addition to regular swim practice after school. Today was our last day of drylands and our awesome seniors brought donuts to share! Super proud of these athletes and how hard they have been working💪🍩

This is the motivational video we listened to this morning - yes it was the epic Nike commercial but the words ring pretty true to where these kids are at in their training:
https://youtu.be/hbkZrOU1Zag

We coaches feel pretty honored to be working with such a great group of athletes. Not only are they proving to themselves that they can do things they didn't think possible before and trying new events with an open mind, but they also support one another through it. They want their teammates to qualify. They lift each other up. They're pretty dang good humans which is harder than competing in any sport.

Swimmers working hard and getting some variety with stations: stretch cordz for sp*ed work, shoulder bands for injury prevention, t shirts for drag work and fins for extra sp*ed work and ankle mobility! These kids are killing it and training hard!

Great way to wrap up lactates and celebrate some epic hero 100 fly swims from Lorenzo and Hashna!

Hey gang, yesterday we talked about being more mindful on our nutrition while we are training and putting a large workload on our bodies. This includes getting enough protein in each day AND swapping high glycemic processed carbs (chips crackers, sweets etc) for lower glycemic ones like rolled oats, steel cut oats, brown rice & quinoa. They're easier on our blood sugar so we can utilize a slow more consistent stream on energy verses a spike and then a drop.

We also talked about all the amazing functions of magnesium in our bodies. It's an essential electrolyte that we sweat out (you are sweating in the water) that we don't generally get enough of from whole food sources with how depleted our soils are. It's also water solvable so you p*e out what you don't use!

Here are 2 great examples of magnesium available at Costco ans raleys. If you take more than what your body is used to the only side effect can be loose stool Start with 100mg and work up to 300mg. So, magnesium aids the central nervous system for your digestion, muscle recovery, and brain health. Many take it for its anxiety reducing benefits and sleep benefits so take before bed!

Great job to everyone who came to practice last week! Just a reminder that practice for this week is as follows:
