Have you ever missed opportunities because you were afraid of the risk? Or maybe afraid of the possibility of failure.

Last week I was scheduled to do some mountain biking in Sedona, but the weather forecast was awful. 80% chance of rain, 50 degree temps, and wind gusts up to 40mph.

Several people decided not to ride (and I didn’t blame them). I considered not going myself.

But then, I changed my story. I told myself that, worst case scenario, I would have an interesting, and memorable, story to tell. As luck would have it, the forecast was completely wrong and I enjoyed a nice sunny day of riding.

Risk avoidance can also cause us to miss out on career opportunities. We fail to even try for an opportunity because we think we lack experience or someone else is more qualified or we fear the disappointment if we don’t receive the prospect.
