Stretching teaches muscles to engage less in contexts where you need them most. If you want joint support, balance, strength and functionality with your muscles, the simple answer lies in moving correctly. What constitutes correct movement? Well thatâs where things get foggy, depending on who you listen toâŚ
Hereâs a basic rule of thumb that will help you determine who actually knows whatâs going on from whoâs faking it. Simply put, if your body doesnât look more symmetrical and decompressed after using a set of techniques a particular training method offers, while also showing clear signs of improvement in your movement, then theyâre going to do you more harm than good.
Seems logical right? If an exercise doesnât promote balance, itâs essentially going to do the opposite of that over the long haul. Since most people donât get any decompression or symmetry with their training, they end up feeling bad which is what leads them to stretching.
When you see our results, just know that any stretch that we do is driven by a properly executed movement. Meaning that we institute a muscular fatigue while the stretch is happening. That fatigue represents the replacement of tension on the stretch. When most people stretch, they donât think about replacing that tension, they seem to hope the body magically redistributes it. Word from the wise is that it doesnât. Anything you donât account for in training is going to come back around and bite you later on.
If you want to fix your body, move correctly. If you want to move correctly, FP is here to help.
WANT TO PERFORM BETTER?
If you want better performance avoid these foods in your diet.
At FP we donât take short sighted approaches when it comes to functioning optimally. Look around you, the problems you see stem from average approaches. Although, solving the actual problem is going to take an above average approach. It wasnât the older car company Ford who produced a self driving electric car, it was the more innovative Tesla that did.
If you want stale average results then take average advice. If you are seeking cutting edge above average results then look where the results are.
We back our claims with extraordinary results you wonât find anywhere else. Avoid these foods or donât. In the end, your results or lack there of will tell the tale.
We all have decisions to make in this life. All we are saying is follow the results. Living a life that leads to a higher probability of good health and better performance makes the most sense to us.
With the new hustle economy becoming the latest trend to make income in the current market, people everywhere are looking to turn their âcreativityâ into passive income. What they donât consider is if what theyâre selling provides utility for the end consumer.
The problem we see with this new hustle economy in the fitness industry is that everyone and their momma is hopping on this trend of becoming a fitness influencer. If you have a phone you can use it to market yourself as a fitness âprofessionalâ regardless of whether or not you can showcase any evidence to back your claims.
Building a following off of hype is what most of these influencers do and people everywhere are believing it. Instead of developing a product thatâs useful, they have to focus on hype to create perceived value around what theyâre selling. With new paradigms popping up often in the fitness world, people are ending up with problems brought on by short sighted trendy approaches.
Building a following from legitimate results and providing actual value to our consumers across the globe is how we roll. People donât come to FP for the new flavor of the week. They come to FP to get their problems resolved. Those who come in and go through the step by step process we systematically lay out, get results.
If youâre still standing on the sideline watching everyone on FP make improvements remember, until you go through the process involved in solving problems youâll never understand why FP doers rant and rave about us.
RUNNING CORRECTLY IS THE BEST EXERCISE
Ask any anthropologist what way humans evolved to move best and the fastest. They would all reply, running. In the wild when faced with a deadly predator we had two choices, fight or flight. Since humans arenât physically strong compared to predator animals, flight aka running đđť was often the choice.
But if think about it, whatâs the likelihood of a human outrunning a tiger đ
? Very unlikely. So, along with running, humans also needed to use this thing encased in their skull called a brain đ§ to develop tools and tactics to confuse or trap predators in order to survive.
Letâs use this brain of ours to answer a question. đ walk on all fours. If a dog trainer forced a dog to walk on its front legs in a handstand every time it walked, do you think it would eventually hurt the dogs shoulders? We believe it would which is why we believe a dog should be trained primarily to move about in ways it evolved to move, on four legs. Training a dog to move in a handstand would be an abstract way of training a dog and having to move on four legs would be a more humane and evolutionary sound way to train a dog.
Following this logic itâs important to remember that the use of our brains is useful but it also opens the door to abstract thinking that may not always be beneficial to us. We have created many abstractions that harm us more than they help us. Think crack co***ne, alcohol đş, cigarette đŹ abuse. Although we used our brain to create and use these substances, should we really be using and abusing them? No.
When it comes to training our bodies there have been many abstract ways of going about it. Something like yoga or CrossFit can seem to be beneficial but if you take a closer look you can see that they are merely abstractions created by humans. FP is pushing the idea that we should focus on the FP first four (standing, walking, running and throwing) because this is a more evolutionary sound way of training a human.
Specificity matters. If this makes sense to you comment below.

Posted ⢠SORT OUT YOUR PHYSICAL TO SORT OUT YOUR MENTAL.
People tend to think that we have our brain (mental) and then we have our body (physical) which are two separate systems.
What most donât realize or tend look over is that they are really two parts of one system (your body) that cannot be addressed individually.
Think about it, have you ever been in pain or gotten a cold? How did the pain or cold affect your mental state? Most get irritable, angry or sad when dealing with pain in their bodies. When youâre sick most of us tend to feel unmotivated to much other than recovering and might even feel a bit depressed thinking, âwill we ever get over this cold!â
At FP we have realized that our physical state reflects our mental state and vice versa. We have realized that although many have found ways to change their mental state, theyâve failed to address their physical state. But on the other hand if someone can address their physical state functionally without any harmful byproducts like joint pain or injury, this will have a knock on affect on their mental state as well.
Thereâs a reason why there is so much research that says that exercise is a great way to improve your mental state and overall health. Addressing your physical is key when it comes to attaining good health. The only thing to ask now is whether the physical activity youâre engaging in is causing more harm than good.
If youâre unsure, check out our page. See the results that back our claims. Focus on the FP First Four and learn to train without joint pain.
In life there is a thing called progression. A process of continued improvement, starting from a basic level, breaking into a moderate level and then onto an advanced level.
We all understand this especially if youâve ever been in a situation where you havenât built skill in an area and had to go head to head against someone with skills in that area. Itâs called getting ahead of yourself, and it seems that most seeking to attain physical health are oblivious to this concept.
If a 10 year old child decided he or she wanted to become president of the US would you vote for them? No because you understand that child had no life experience that would make them a great leader. The child has steps to take before it can begin to understand the intricacies of human life and learn how to lead people.
The same goes with addressing your physical health. Humans evolved to stand, walk, run and throw as their primary functions. What we are simply saying is that if your posture is not optimal, you canât walk/run without having pains in your knees, hip and back or throw without pain in your elbow or shoulder, then you should probably reconsider skipping ahead to loading up your spine with weight and squatting. You may be causing more problems than you think if you go down this path.
The idea here is not to skip steps with your health. At FP we focus on putting one foot in front of the other. We help humans build solid foundations with their structures which gives them the opportunity for greater variability in their movement down the track. Donât get ahead of yourself. Just sayinâ.
When most people train the glutes, they rarely ever ask themselves why these muscles formed on the human body in the first place. Why do the glutes exist the way they do on humans? Because our primary mode of operation (walking and running) are what drove them into existence. Muscles donât just appear out of the blue on animals. They evolve in relation to how they are used in the environment, especially during stressful events.
Way back I pondered this idea and adjusted all my glute training to respect running mechanics. What Iâve found is that the more specific I relate my glute training to the mechanics of running, the tougher it is on the glutes. Itâs literally encoded in our genetics as humans.
The better you relate your glute training to how they were developed in the first place, the easier it is to keep them over the long haul. Atrophy of tissues happens when we stop using them. If you want the magic bullet to substantially slowing down atrophy in your glutes, train them in a manner that respects running. Itâs one of the reasons people feel so great when they dial them in using FP protocols. Another big plus is that when you train the glutes this way, pain also dissipates all over the body. Wel connected glutes will support a strong spine and a strong spine means healthy motion of many other places. Healthy motion means no pain.
Hope these thoughts are helpful. Stay functional.
Donât get me wrong, Iâm all for improving a personâs muscle development. But if the development is not specifically building muscle around functionality, itâs going to make you worse.
Strength coaches all teach sloppy technique. Yes all of them. Before you all get your panties in a bunch, read the rest of this post and then sit silent for a minute while you process things.
The way I determine that strength coaches are all sloppy is by seeing their clients not improve things like gait, scoliosis, or harsh vertebral shifts with the strength training.
I say things that make strength coaches really uncomfortable. When I say that strength training is supposed to correct scoliosis, gait malfunctions, poor vertical leaps, weak lifting capacity, and dysfunctional throwing all at the same time, it makes them shudder. Iâve told them to their face and demonstrate why and the deer in the headlights look always happens. They become bewildered at the fact that literally everything theyâre doing is mostly wrong.
Iâve gotten the âNaudi, Iâd like to pick your brainâ situation in my career very often from strength coaches. When they realize thereâs no simple trick to account for precision, they literally just disappear. They make a concerted effort to run from what I say because itâs just so inconvenient to their business model.
Look guys, Iâm all for capitalism. The key part of capitalism that I like is that part where people earn their living by getting results that are objectively beneficial to the consumer. Unfortunately, people in my field play speculative games where they convince people they are more valuable than what they are.
Just so we are clear. If every technique you do doesnât correct your scoliosis, knee valgus, shoulder imbalances, flat feet, cranial malformations, and so on, youâre doing it wrong. My training accounts for some of these things but not all. Key point is that I acknowledged this over 16 years ago and have made and continue to make adjustments. My industry is yet to even acknowledge this problem today. Think about that for a second.

400K ! Functional Patterns is the tortoise in the tortoise and hare race. We haven't had a quick rise but we're seeing a consistent uptake in followers and engagement on the platform. We keep sticking to the principals that orient our training to get results, and ultimately the end consumer is becoming more aware of this as time moves forward.
It's a gradual process educating people on better movement values so they can determine what's good for them. Ephemeralization is the goal at FP. We aim to do more with less, teaching you to be efficient with everything that you do. When you create economy of motion with your movement, you set the stage for your body to regenerate at the most fundamental levels.
Every day our culture slowly shifts towards understanding the importance of movement economics. A revolution in health and human performance is happening right now. If you can see this now and adjust, consider yourself ahead of the curve. Only onwards and upwards from here. Thank you all for the support!
