...Subwoofer 😂
Fun Fact Friday! Did you know that the loudest speaker in the world goes up to 188dB?? Designed by Richard Clark, Mark Eldridge, and David Navone, this incredible sound is due to a set of 60" subwoofers. They weren't mass-produced for sale, which is probably a good thing as these speakers can rupture your eardrums - after all, a Jetplane produces just 150dB during take-off, which is enough to ruin your hearing forever.
Throwback Thursday! Remember when owning a 17-inch "big color" TV was something to brag about?
Can you believe this is a real speaker?
Mine did! Like or comment if yours did too 👍 (Or if you are the parent in question!)
From everyone here at SpenCertified, we wish you all a happy and safe Labor Day! We hope you can enjoy some time with friends and family today.
Fun Fact Friday! Did you know that there are four different types of cassette tape?
TYPE 1: This is standard ferric-oxide tape, also referred to as "normal bias."
TYPE 2: This is "chrome" or CrO2 tape. The ferric-oxide particles are mixed with chromium dioxide.
TYPE 3: A combination of 1 and 2, ferro-chrome tape mixed into one being a dual layer tape; there is also cobalt in type 3 tapes. These ones are rare and obsolete.
TYPE 4: This is "metal" tape. Metallic particles rather than metal-oxide particles are used in the tape.
Throwback Thursday! Anyone else think of this as their first iPod?
Humanity is known for our love of recording experiences and knowledge. From images to sound, humans have obsessed over keeping records for thousands of years. One of the best examples of that? The invention of the record player! The ability to record sound revolutionized the music industry in a way that we’re still being impacted by today.
So whether you're a music buff, a history nerd, or simply have a few minutes you'd like to spend learning something new, read about the history of the record player here:

Fun Fact Friday! Did you know that commercials were not always expensive? In 1941, 20 seconds of prime-time air time cost roughly $9 ($200 in today's money). Today, prices can go up to $2.7 million for 30 seconds in the Super Bowl half-time break.

Do you enjoy watching television? We do! By extending the senses and bridging physical distance, TV has a way of making the impossible seem possible.

Did you know that laserdiscs and DVDs were manufactured nearly 20 years apart? Yet the DVD was based off of laserdisc technology, so they have quite a few similarities. But it's their differences that make people view DVDs as the superior technology.
Our recent blog post delves into what a laserdisc and a DVD is and compares and contrasts these two formats that paved the way for video technology as we know it today.
If you have a spare minute or five, you can go here read it: https://spencertified.com/blogs/vintage-electronics-articles/laserdisc-vs-dvd-battle-of-the-discs

Fun Fact Friday! Did you know that the range of Bluetooth technology can vary from roughly 1 meter to over 100 meters? The range will depend on the class of the device. Class 1 devices have a longer range than Class 2 or Class 3 devices.
Throwback Thursday! Does anyone remember having one of those "genuine plastic" radios? Some of them came in really cool colors and designs. 📻
Going backwards is sometimes the best way to get what you want from technology. While bigger and brighter screens are addicting, and are certainly wonderful for those 4k movie nights, at the end of the day sometimes it’s the old boxy tube televisions that bring you the most happiness.
That's the idea behind CRT gaming. CRT gaming is using a cathode-ray tube (CRT) TV for playing video games. It's great for re-experiencing old games the way they were intended. CRT gaming melts away those jagged, low-resolution details that 4k TVs like to sharpen, and it gives you the warm & fuzzies from playing with old technology.
