This is your grass appreciation post, showcasing the little details and landscape view of the finalized grassy hill. I will next work on the rocks and clouds.
Any ideas for what kind of critters would live in the area? π¦
π±
Ah yes, the deliciously appearing paint that I will use to paint grass.
Mixing up the paint reminds me of mixing up colorful icing for yummy baked goods. π§β¨οΈ
I've beat all temptations to eat this forbidden icing thus far π«‘

πΈ Flower Appreciation Post πΌ
Those who hike with me know that I often like to take my time, looking for little treasures such as flowers.
My favorite from this set is the 9th image, featuring the American brooklime (Veronica americana). There came a point in the trail where a brook seeped across, creating a muddy environment with a lovely trickling noise. That muddy brook is the preferred habitat for this plant. This one, in particular, was so small that I had to crouch down close to it. Super cool !!

With a wicked snarl and a swipe from a heavy paw, the ocean-lion yΕkai scares any greedy fishermen at sea. ππ¦
For this yΕkai, I was inspired by historical illustrations of animals or beasts whose depictions were based on descriptions rather than actual appearances. That idea led me to create a monstrous sea lion.
I had a lot of fun with this one, especially with the water. π¦

Meet the medicinal yokai, a snake-turtle creature that grinds up medicine from foraged herbs using the divot on its head. π π’ πΏ
This yokai was inspired by Genbu, a Chinese-influenced folklore creature symbolizing longevity. In this design, I interpreted that symbolism through a medicinal "good health" approach.
Ironically, I think I could use some help from this yokai. π€§

If you're having trouble sleeping, perhaps this dream-weaving yokai can craft you a talisman. π
I was inspired by spiders, how they weave, and the amulets in Japanese culture. πΈ

Meet the traveling tΕrΕ yΕkai! They travel through gardens and forests, offering to guide people and animals to their destinations. I was inspired by stone lanterns and straw hats.
YokaiJuly. Traveler.
I have categorized into four groups: nature, culture, abstract, and people. I have provided 31 themes, one for each day in July. Feel free to choose one theme from each group or follow your own preferences. This is intended to accommodate your pace and interests.
This is my first time creating an art challenge, and I would love for you to join, even if it's just for one sketch. βΊοΈ
What yΕkai is hiding out there, waiting for you to discover it? πΊβ©οΈ
is almost here, and I will be posting the prompts later this weekend so everyone can start thinking about what creature or spirit they would like to create.
YΕkai are supernatural spirits in Japanese folklore. They have inspired many creatives and made appearances through media such as PokΓ©mon. I look forward to the fun designs that everyone comes up with!
Hey, Teddiursa!
Who's that with you?
He looks kinda familiar, but also a bit strange...
Squirtle embracing the rain. π§ (Meanwhile, I am anticipating the arrival of our monsoon season.)
I followed a sketch prompt suggested by my friend to draw a window near me. I included my work desk, which is right underneath it. π¨ Should I color this one now?
This is my Flygon art submission for the annual Trading Card Game Illustration Contest. π
I created it with watercolor and colored pencil, with final touches done in . I wanted a day-in-the-life style, with Flygon walking the desert floor at night. The shooting star was a nice magical twist. π
There were just under 11,000 entries altogether for a selection of PokΓ©mon. I did not make it to the Top 300, but it was a nice experience to have, and I look forward to participating again. I love being able to see the work of many other talented artists after the long secretive wait! β¨οΈ
Unfortunately, multiple works of AI art did make it into the Top 300. Yikes! I hope that gets attention and is corrected soon.

Embracing my fiery blue yokai persona! I made this portrait with gouache (Nicker) and then polished it up in Procreate. ππ₯π
I've been on a yokai bend lately and am putting together an art challenge for the month of July, with the running name Yokai-July (it rhymes π€).
For those who don't know, yokai are supernatural creatures in Japanese folklore. Anyways, more info later! πΉ

Sprinkling in some process shots of a lincut carving. My goal was to create a scene that conveys the peaceful watcher persona of a traveler stumbling upon critters in nature.
A carved block will print backward, so I was constantly reminding myself to be extra careful when starting the lettering. π€

In our printmaking class, we experimented with LEGO Dots. It was fun not only creating a design with limited shapes but also seeing the final print.
Here, I went with a bug critter scene. A horned beetle and a butterfly amongst flowers.
