Henry enjoys using less commonly seen mediums with a special interest in animals and toy making.

You may have heard the news that this week Phoenix is hitting record temperatures, or maybe you just stepped outside and found out for yourself 🥵. The good news is MCC Art Gallery is still open during the summer with a very COOL experience! This is the final week to view the creations of talented high school student artists from across the valley. Featured is Karl Kang’s 3-color reduction print linocut titled “I Remember” conveying the complex emotions of nostalgia.
This Thursday, June 1st, is the Opening Reception and Award Ceremony of SPECTRUM! Join us as we welcome a new group of high school student awardees, and get inspired by the talent that will create the upcoming classes of MCC Art Students. The reception starts at 6pm in the Art Gallery with an award ceremony in the Theater across the lawn from 6:30 -7pm and back at the gallery to continue viewing artwork with food and refreshments from Pita Jungle until 8pm. We hope to see you there!
International artist not only gave an inspired speech at sunset to a packed house that goes far beyond this picture but she is also our very first artist in residence!
One of the showstoppers in the 2023 Annual Student Art Show was this piece by Matthew Lincoln entitled “MMIW: Perspective”.
This inspired piece by Jackson Solomon entitled “Back Left Corner, at Dawn” received an honorable mention from out judges!
We were so honored this year to have international artist and MCC alumni Antoinette Cauley speak at our award ceremony in addition to honoring our students by handing out awards with our department head Gingher Leyendecker.
The brilliant and shimmering glazes on this piece by Kimberly Moore are truly stunning! Entitled “Ankh Teabowl” this is just one of 35 ceramic pieces in the 2023 Annual Student Art Show. MCC has an incredible ceramics department with instructors that can demonstrate everything from how to throw a pot to the most advanced glazing and firing techniques.

A stunning fibers and multimedia piece by Shaandiin Yazzie entitled “New Growth Under Changing Skies” won a jurors prize award in this years 2023 Annual Student Art Show at MCC Art Gallery.
This charming piece by Madison Kowal entitled “The Lounge” drew an admiring crowd on opening night! Congrats to all of our MCC art students who were selected to be in the 2023 Annual Student Art Show!
This years 2023 Annual Student Art Show had an entire section of stunning portraiture which included works by Madisyn Brown entitled “Beauty Among Art” pictured here on the left and an honorable mention for Logan Deitrick’s work entitled “CoffeeShop” on the right.
MCC has an incredible art department and our 2023 Annual Student Art Show shows off the wide array of talent in traditional and non-traditional mediums. This landscape painting by Ares Myers entitled “Show Low Lakeside” received a jurors prize award!

The Future of Printmaking is here at MCC Art Gallery through March 17! This is a unique opportunity to experience what printmakers across the state are creating and what techniques have been developed in their practice such as this UV reactive piece.
This featured work is “SkelePop” by the Darore Collective including Ron Lyons II, Rebecca Emily, and Daniel Mariotti. “SkelePop” is a 3-layer screen print based on a popsicle design from Poland called “Jagodowy Duch” or in English “Blueberry Ghost”. Jagodowy Duch popsicles had a unique stick that was a fluorescent skeleton replicated in the print with UV ink.

This Friday, March 3 is a FREE photoshoot and form assistance to submit to the 2023 Student Art Show. This is a great opportunity to bring your artwork into its best light and receive any extra assistance you may need with the submission process. The sign up list for this photoshoot and artwork submission form are both linked in the bio. Located in building AC-30 (Art & Communications) room AC- 3E from 1 to 6 pm. There is still time to see The Future of Printmaking open through March 17. Gallery hours are Monday - Thursday from 9am to 5pm. Featured is Marc Basil’s “Incoherent sounds, Words that don’t fall, Pin it on diction”, 2022, Drypoint etching on stretched fabric
Sixteen editions of each face are printed exhibiting the repetition of the printmaking process and celebrating each slight variation.

(2) Full Academic Year scholarships to the MCC Art Department for 11th and 12th graders only.
(2) Half Academic Year scholarships to the MCC Art Department for 11th and 12th graders only.
(5) 2 Course scholarships to the MCC Art Department for 11th and 12th graders only.
(10) 1 Course scholarships to the MCC Art Department for 11th and 12th graders only.
About the Exhibition:
The Spectrum Art Exhibition is meant for high school students 9th-12th grade who are interested in exhibiting their work for a chance to win a scholarship to the MCC Art Department! The scholarships can cover the cost of a full year of tuition, a half year of tuition, or the cost of one or two classes. When a work is awarded one of these prizes, the recipient must enroll at MCC for the requisite credit hours, maintain a GPA of 2.5 and declare a major in Art to be awarded their funding. Not all accepted submissions will receive a scholarship but all are eligible. Please contact Grant Vetter at [email protected] with any questions.

How it works:
You can submit 1-3 artworks in any medium - ceramics, sculpture, digital illustration, animation, design, drawing, life drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, textiles, and graphic design.
Make sure to fill out all the fields in the form,
and our jurors will review all submissions before deciding what will be in this year's exhibition.
The process of submitting and showing your work is a great way to develop your professional practice as an artist. Make sure to apply today!
Eligibility:
* Students must have registered for an MCC ART class from Spring 2022 to Spring 2023.
* Artwork that was accepted into a previous Annual Art Student Show at MCC is not eligible.
