we spent Memorial Day weekend in California. left Mesa at 5am on Saturday to head straight to Pala for the season opener, of the outdoor nationals.

the things that made my heart beat as a little girl, still give me the same feelings in my 30’s.

I went back and forth on whether or not to bring my camera in. glad I did, but I probably could have chosen something bigger than a 35mm lens, out of my quiver. however, it was a dust bowl and a lens swap would’ve been a mess.

Jeronimo and I met in 2017. He was in high school, and a busser at a restaurant I bartended at. I loved him so much I stole him and made him come work with me at another restaurant. this was my first time ever hosting a mini shoot. while it’s something that is often requested, I don’t think it’ll be a regular occurrence around here. It was exciting to provide memorable photos, at a lower rate, for my clients; but, I see the greater value in booking a full hour session. I will stick to that. That way neither of us feel rushed and I can provide you with larger galleries….and you’ll get more time to listen to me ramble like a squirrel. 🤠

Rhyan came to me with a need for senior photos, but wanted to avoid a desert backdrop. her vision was somewhere “old time-y” and so I spent a few days scouting spots for her. We were able to use all 5 of the locations in the hour we worked together, in order to accomplish her desired look.

Almost 32 years, I have lived in Mesa. I was certain I knew every corner of the desert, in the East Valley. I was stunned to see how diverse Butcher Jones is in the spring.

I think I steer clear of “popular” locations because it can be challenging dodging other photogs and families enjoying the area. However, I learned yet again, what makes a popular area, popular. It’s everything you could ever want in a location.

When I was beginning the editing process I was flooded with memories of mine and my sons family photos, over the years. I can’t believe how fast it goes by. (I’m still not having anymore though, so don’t even use my last sentence as leverage).

Mom’s, you’re always the ones taking the photos make sure you’re in them too.

I’m so glad Kate is remembering to document these years, and that I’m able to be the person who helps her do so.
