Today is a monumental day in celebrating the documented end of slavery for African Americans in the United States!

Although President Lincoln had passed the Emancipation Proclamation, African Americans were not free specifically in the south until about 2 years later.

As a white person, it’s important to educate yourself on the history of enslavement and reflect on ways that you can still be racist (even if you are not aware or think you are).

Today, we celebrate African Americans and other people of color for their continuous perseverance and strength!

Happy P R I D E and Men’s Mental Health Month! 🌈💚🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️

For the month of June, here is how you can support the LGBTQIA2S+ community and men’s mental health:

✔️ Support locally owned LGBTQIA2S+ businesses and amplify local voices: host them on podcasts, business proposals, IG lives, etc.

✔️ Use appropriate language and pronouns for everyone (I.e using they/they vs. she/her) If you are unsure of an individual’s pronouns, just ask!

✔️ Educate yourself and others on LGBTQIA2S+ history! Same s*x relationships and diverse gender identities exist in ancient civilizations including Greece, Rome, and Egypt (sourced from various classical texts including “Homos*xuality in Ancient Greece” by Thomas K. Hubbard)

✔️ Stand up for members in the LGBTQIA2S+ that are being harassed or teased!

✔️ Raise awareness through social media / in person conversations about men’s mental health: Men are more likely to engage in substance abuse vs. talking about what’s ACTUALLY going on (NIDA and SAMHSA sources)

✔️ Encourage men to seek out therapists and other mental health professionals to learn how to navigate their emotions and past in a healthy manner

✔️ Being a man does NOT mean suppressing your emotions or how you feel. It takes a bold man to ask for help vs. suffering your entire life

✔️ Educate yourself on societal expectations that men face and stand up for rewriting these narratives

Everyone deserves to feel comfortable and loved as themselves! Let’s show support! Ask and educate yourself! Let’s help make the world a safer place!
