Field Day has been a huge success! Picked up by WDSU-TV and Fox8. Lots of people came to see what we do. Officials from Jefferson Parish and Louisiana government attended. Thanks for all who participated

A little lunch before Field Day 2024 starts at JARC.

06/22/2024

FIELD DAY IS HERE! Come join us to see how we communicate in emergencies - like hurricane aftermath - locally and worldwide without utility power, internet, or cell service.

06/21/2024

FIELD DAY starts TOMORROW. Did you know: radio waves only move in STRAIGHT lines. So how do we talk with Australia? The straight waves reflect on the atmosphere and the earth to “hop” around our CURVED planet.

06/20/2024

Only 2 days til Field Day. Did you know the word "telegraph" was invented in 1791 to mean a non-electric semaphore system. That's why we have a "Telegraph Hill" in many cities.

06/19/2024

Only 3 days til Field Day. Ham radio is FUN! - not just about emergencies. Lots of opportunities to learn new things, build your own equipment, and compete in contests with people all over the world!

06/18/2024

Only 4 days til Field Day. With potential Tropical Storm Alberto in the Gulf, it's a good time to sharpen our skills and tune up our equipment

06/17/2024

Only 5 days til FIELD DAY. Did you know there is usually a ham on the International Space Station and you can talk with him or her if you are ham.

June 11th at 9pm we hold the first ever JARC Wires-X Net. The net will be in the W5GAD Wires-X room, which is number 45584, named W5GAD Room. Don't forget, you can only get to the W5GAD Wires-X room through the JARC 147.240 repeater or through a Wires-X node. On the night of the net, make sure you connect to the W5GAD Room before the net starts. During the net, we hope to build on what we all learned at the recent Wires-X and Wieners event. If the net is successful, it may become a reoccurring net.

Honolulu Emergency Amateur Radio Club End-Fed 6m-40m Antenna Build Instructions

This EARC project produces an inexpensive, multiband, end fed HF antenna and matchbox that is quick and easy to setup and use. This project creates a 9:1 UNUN (unbalance to unbalance) toroid matching transformer that will match the high input impedance of an end fed antenna into the range where most antenna tuners can produce good performance.

JARC members have utilized this antenna for various events to include; Museum Sips on the Air, Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend, National Parks on the Air, and WWII Museum events.

The matchbox can be ordered from the Honolulu EARC or you can build one yourself. It is an easy build and the instructions can be found at the JARC Website at https://www.google.com/url?q=https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cCtD2eaD7JqLQ-wiVGV42SoRRzTuQ1U2/view?usp%3Dsharing&sa=D&source=editors&ust=1717034243134185&usg=AOvVaw1IUhDxS0FeQj3CBTmtGuDH

This antenna performs well as a vertical using a simple "kite pole".

Thanks to the EARC for providing this information.

The D-STAR NET of Southeast Louisiana sponsored by JARC will be Tuesday, May 21st at 9pm on Reflector 48C. When operational, the JARC and SELCOM 2M and 70CM D-STAR repeaters are linked to reflector 48C for the net.

We now have a third repeater available for use during the net. The Jefferson Parish RACES 145.250 and 444.475 repeaters are online. The 145.250 repeater has a -0.6 MHz offset and the 444.475 repeater has a +5.00 MHz offset.

If Reflector 048C is not working, the alternate reflector will be Reflector 073B. We hope to hear from you all on the net.
