We are excited to release our third collection of Sabah Sun — our very own sunglasses, handmade in Italy of heritage acetate with premium Carl Zeiss lenses, inspired by vintage, round frame eyewear and given a distinct Sabah expression.

A product we first released in 2021, our Sabah Sun has garnered a devoted following of its own, with many wearers owning frames in multiple colors.

This year’s collection, simply put, is fun.

Featuring frames in green, red and navy; a refreshed tortoise; and two takes on black, one with smoke and the other yellow-tinted lenses, Sabah Sun, like our footwear, is versatile, travel-ready and exquisitely crafted.

Marrakech Orange Sabahs will be my Summer Sabahs 🍊☀️

Late last year, we started working with Todd Snyder and his team to bring their unique design perspective to our classic Sabah silhouette.

We’re excited to introduce the collaboration — available immediately (in stock) from Todd Snyder’s website and stores, and by pre-order directly from the Sabah Portal.

We’ve never made a Sabah quite like this before. It draws on traditional craft that comes from artisans in Gaziantep, Turkey - where our Sabah workshop is located. Specifically, we employed a saraç technique, which refers to the hand-stitching used to decorate saddles & harnesses. We’ve applied this decorative stitch to the upper of two different Sabah colorways, both dyed into waxed crazy horse style leathers, also a nod to saddles.

The stitching along the upper gives them a subtle, but really beautiful point of difference and is a strong nod to the artisanship found in both of our brands.

Todd visited me at Sabah House New York to see the final product of our work together. It was great to connect the dots between our work on this product, and his current collection, which employs similar handiwork of crochet & embroidery in various summertime garments.

As part of our Spring Residency at , we’ve been highlighting Nashville creatives. Today, we feature two women from the Music City’s vibrant food scene: Duolan Li of and Mailea Weger of .

Duolan Li created and co-owns Xiao Bao with Chef Josh Walker, her partner in business and in life. Xiao Bao Nashville is a reflection of the couple’s love for food, music, dance and travel; Duolan’s roots from China, and mostly her travels throughout Asia with her family & husband. The cuisine pulls inspiration from all over Asia. 

When asked what Nashville means to her, Duolan responded:

“I LOVE Nashville. It’s such a vibrant, creative, weird city and moving here helped me rediscover my creative spark. It started with the design of Xiao Bao Nashville, which is my interpretation of feeling Asian- it reads like an Haruki Murakami short story set in a timeless, placeless diner. 
 
The community and friends I have made here are priceless. Life, routines and the roles we embody is hard and often times stifling, but I have met more people here that have a sparkle in their eye and a full-bodied laugh. Everyone here knows how to have a good time.”

Mailea Weger is a Southern-California born chef who began her career in the fashion industry, and then fell in love with cooking while traveling through Europe in 2009. Her IG profile puts it more succintly: “california chef, by way of nashville & paris.” It was on an extended trip in Europe when she turned 30 that she stopped in Paris and worked in a restaurant to make ends meet.

She then went on to open Lou with an aim of bringing European influenced dining to Nashville, along with an impressive natural wine list. 

When we asked Mailea what Nashville means to her, she responded:

“The Nashville community gave me the space to execute a vision and freedom to run Lou in a way that our team finds most value in: employee wellness, supporting local & sustainable small business, and standing up for social equality.”

Yesterday marked our first beach day of the season. 75, sunny, and we even made the ocean plunge … cold, but refreshing.

Naturally, we were wearing our El Paso Babas. In my opinion, the best pair we make for the beach (on the beach, and going to & from). They’re not just indestructible, but the sand, sun, and salt actually makes ‘em even prettier (that golden brown hue) and more comfortable. That’s the beauty of using undyed veg tan saddle leather.

That’s our designer wearing her favorite Sabahs & Babas of the season: the Full Moon - a large format grey dot over a darker grey tonal background.

Elaine designed this pattern and has been owning the look ever since her first sample pairs arrived in March. She’s always styling her ‘Dot Sabahs’ (as we refer to them around the office) in a variety of ways ... from denim jeans & linen pants to dresses & patterned sets.

On a warm day last week, we had Elaine throw together a couple Spring & Summer looks she’d wear with the Full Moon pattern as inspiration for y’all.

In her own words: “I like wearing them as a pop; a good way to make a simpler outfit more fun. And when I’m feeling more adventurous, I also think it’s fun to lean into the pattern and style it with other patterns or pop colors. Despite it being a funkier pattern, I find that this pair and the colors of the pattern go well with almost my entire wardrobe!”

NASHVILLE: We’re out here, having so much fun getting to know y’all 🤠 Swing by our Spring Residency out front of this weekend — 2601 12th Ave South. We’ve got some Sabahs & Babas you won’t find anywhere else ;) can’t come this weekend? We’re open daily through the end of May.

When our friend, .roman, told us he was traveling to Morocco this Spring, we kindly asked him to pack a pair of our brand new Marrakech Sabahs and report back.

He did exactly that. From amazing stays at and to getting lost in the Medina and stumbling upon the shop of — and … it was the type of adventure that has you googling flights as soon as you finish hearing about it. 

And, of course, he did it all in our newly reissued Marrakech Sabahs — a bright orange drum-dyed into a full grain leather that we had developed just for us in Istanbul. These Sabahs are going to age so beautifully as the bright orange fades, burnishes and breaks in with all your Summer plans ahead.

Continuing with our feature of local Nashville creatives, as part of a series celebrating our current Spring Pop Up at - we’re excited to introduce you to 🎶

Becca is a q***r musical artist based in Nashville. They were born in Staten Island; however, and grew up along the East Coast from Florida to Pennsylvania. “East Coast, always,” Becca told us.

But Becca loves the South for a lot of reasons people often misunderstand. “There is so much history of fighting back in the South,” Becca told me.

That’s informed Becca’s own work which is very much about self-acceptance, encouragement and community, which includes sharing their own story on coming out and speaking out about q***r rights. Becca explains however that their music and work is full of love. “You won’t find any hate on my page, just lots of love. Everyone is welcome.”

When asked, “Where to Next?” Becca lit up with a few answers.

After 10 years of solid work and career focus, they want to be able to travel and see things “for the sake of living” again.

That would include visiting Puerto Rico, where Becca’s mom is from and grandfather still has a home. Digging into their ancestry has felt important to Becca, learning Spanish. “I’ve gotten to that age where I’m obsessed with my ancestors.”

Becca concluded our chat, “But I love music. I want to do it til I drop dead on stage, ya know!”

Back in Stock 🍭 When we released our Lido Babas in January of this year, they sold out within a matter of two weeks.

We immediately ordered another production run of the soft hair-on leather with that imperfect pink stripe. They arrived yesterday to Sabah HQ, just 120 pairs, now available on the Sabah Portal (and shortly at all Sabah Houses), just in time for Sabah Season... and summer.

We’re super excited to be back in one of our very favorite cities, Nashville, for our Spring Residency at , which is open daily & runs through the end of May.

In that spirit, our creative team traveled to Nashville last week to meet with five inspiring locals: a chef, ceramic artist, restauranteur, shop owner, and musician.

Today, we introduce you to one of them: Maria Torres of … she’s wearing a new version of an old favorite: our Classic Camel Sabahs paired beautifully with her vintage denim.

Maria Torres is the founder & owner of Torres Vintage, a vintage shop in East Nashville that pulls inspiration from amongst many things, Maria’s Mexican roots (she was born in Guadalajara and her family is mostly in Zacatecas).

Her hope with Torres Vintage is that visitors can find “wearable basics & pieces that can fit into the common closet.”

One area where Torres Vintage shines is denim. Maria offers only “a true classic denim” — meaning jeans made in the USA, and from before the year 2000, which is when most of the domestic denim production went overseas.

When I asked Maria what Nashville meant to her and her business, the first word that came mind was “community”. Whether as a female or Latina business owner, Maria has felt supported by her community. You’ll notice this is a common thread with all of the folks we talked to.

And, Where to Next?

Expansion of her business. Maria is excited by the idea of designing her own line, exploring new creative outlets like photography, and taking Torres Vintage on the road. Maybe you’ll find her amazing denim collection at a Sabah House soon ;)

Our most popular patterned Baba — the Kare Kare — named after a famous black sand beach in New Zealand. They’re super soft (and therefore comfy) from the first steps… We are wearing ‘em with denim in the evenings, shorts during the day, and bathing suits at the beach. Always a conversation starter and a mood booster!

Loved this photo sent to me from documenting her El Paso Babas … 287 days of wear later, as compared to how they looked when they were brand new! It’s all about that break in process — so satisfying.
