✅ Don’t pull on the rope. Let it naturally pull you to your feet without resistance, otherwise, you’ll take a dip in the water.

5 Common Boating Mistakes to Avoid

🚤 RUNNING AGROUND
Probably the most common boating mistake people make is running aground. Even experienced boaters can run into this problem quite easily. It can easily happen when tides change very suddenly and you're caught unawares.

🚤 DOCKING ISSUES
Docking can be an intimidating thing for a novice boater, and you can run into a few problems during the process.
One of the biggest issues beginners face is coming in too hot and slamming the dock. High winds or strong currents can cause you to travel at a faster pace than you think you're going, so you should take some time to figure out how to maneuver your boat and control your speed during these conditions.
The second problem people tend to have is tying their boat dock lines incorrectly at the dock. You need to make sure that you're tying the boat correctly to stop it from sustaining damage or, even worse, from coming loose completely and floating away.

🚤 NOT SECURING THE ANCHOR LINE
Casting your anchor out is a difficult process for a beginner. The most important thing that you need to do is make sure that the anchor line is properly secured.
When the anchor line isn't secure, it can quite easily slip out of someone's hands and sink below the water, leaving you unable to anchor your boat and your anchor left abandoned at the bottom of the water.

Most boats come with built-in GPS systems so that you can always find your way around the water.
That being said, you should still know the basics of where you are and how to get around the area because you never know when a problem like bad weather might knock your GPS system out of working order.

🚤 RUNNING THE ENGINE ON LAND
Boat engines, funnily enough, need water to work properly. This is because the water acts as the lubricant to the engine so that it can run smoothly without breaking or overheating.
If boat is on dry land, you should never run the engine for any reason. When there's no water, the engine can't get any lubrication, and the components will begin to rub together, overheat, and eventually, they'll wear down completely and break.

✔️Bring a First Aid Kit
Go through your boating first aid kit and revise what’s in there. While the bandages, gauze, and antiseptic cream should already be there, you can add a few more things like motion sickness medication, especially if someone is traveling by boat for the first time. Add some antihistamine medicine for allergies, decongestants, and pain medication. You should always have something for a fever. Don’t forget to bring your medication if you have it prescribed by the doctor. It is very important to check if you need any vaccines for the area you are traveling to. Insect repellent is also a big must-have on board.

Other safety items may be obvious, but since this can serve as your guide for safe sailing, let’s not forget sunscreen, chapstick, and sunglasses. You can protect your head with a stylish hat. It can get very hot, and you could be exposed to much more UV rays than usual, so you have to think about protecting your skin and head from those harmful rays.

Non-slippery shoes and slippers are a literal lifesaver when you are on your boat rental. You can never be too careful when you are miles away from the shore, and with boats, there are always slippery surfaces, of course.

✔️ A Dry Bag for The Most Important Stuff
You are on a boat, and things are bound to get wet. You should secure all your documents and important papers in a dry bag. For everything else that might get wet, you should double the amount you intended to bring, which means extra towels, clothing, and shoes.

You should prepare some warm clothes in case of sudden storms and cold weather.
