Her: “Well, I just got the results back from the Dr.”, she said.
My reply: “No matter what they are, you are loved and will be supported along the entire journey.”
Her: “The doc said I have Bipolar Disorder and…”
Everything that came after those words faded and details became a muted whisper. I just knew, it was time for me to step up my parenting game again.
Effective communication is crucial when dealing with your child's bipolar disorder, and mindful listening can be a lifeline during these challenging times.

"From Invisible Scars to Healing: The Path of Post Traumatic Growth"

PTSD is not what the media makes it look like.
It's more subtle than a shut down and depressed episode, hiding in bed.
It's hyperactivity and sleeplessness.
It's moving with a sense of urgency.
It's an overwhelming moment that is labeled "panic attacks" where you need to rage, cry and let the emotions flow, while your loved ones simply look at you in wonder of why a small situation garners a huge response.
It's an underlying vibration of a need for safety that never comes.
When it’s an activated state, it honestly feels like you will never be safe or “normal” again.

I think of being trauma informed as being “people informed.” A framework that asks us to consider the impact of trauma and stress on our actions and words asks us to be cognizant of people’s humanity while engaging with them, and values safety and respect as the most important qualities…” Hala Khouri

This! We hear it all the time from folks who take our Outreach Certification.
So many people suffering from physical and mental symptoms and/or managing a misdiagnosis.
In truth. It boils down to unrecognized and unresolved trauma.
What lights me up tho, is that becoming trauma informed is accessible and available right now.
Each person who endeavors to understand the mind/body, the impacts of unresolved wounds and our capacity for coping can and do get better.
As more people gain this knowledge, as more people heal. It multiplies.
We can make this world a little bit better.
Join us in Sacramento Ca or South Beach Miami Fl for our weekend cert.

The current state of the mental health care system is set up in a way that the brain is a separate organ from the body.
When people have symptoms like anxiety, depression, mood swings, high reactivity, etc we label these as mental health disorders.
This can hurt therapists who are limited in their way to help. As well as consumers who seek treatment and are told they have a disorder that must be managed. In this system nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, thyroid dysfunction etc. are not addressed. Each of these can present the same symptoms as mental health disorders. Doctors are not trained on complex post traumatic stress, which is a major issue.
This leads to massive levels of misdiagnosis. It can also lead to what I believe is unintentional medical gaslighting “oh, that’s in your head” or “oh that’s just anxiety.” These symptoms are *very* real and we need to address them, not deny their existence.
In the psychiatry, 20-60% of consumers are affected by treatment resistance.
If a person is being treated for depression when they’re actually experiencing hypothyroidism and stuck in a functional freeze state, the root issues aren’t being addressed. The symptoms will continue. I don’t see this as a failure on the part of a psychiatrist, this is an overall missing piece in the way our system is designed.
The body is wise and symptoms are clues. They’re not something to manage or to suppress— they are signs the body is out of a balance. They’re signs the body is needing to return to homeostasis.
If you’ve had deeper issues going on/were misdiagnosed please feel free to share your story in the comments

✨"Yoga is a practice, way of life, and healing modality that all bodies can do. It helps to balance mind, body, and spirit and supports the integration of all parts of a person. While cultivating a compassionate and loving inner voice, it allows one to sit with self while noticing, honoring, and processing not only the times of abundance, balance, and flow but the harder, challenging, even darker times of struggle, hardship, pain and suffering. It builds compassion for self, others, and the collective experience both on and off the mat."🙏🏾✨

Did you know both Terri Cooper Space and Jodi Weiner were both featured on the Huffington Post platform?
Below is a clip is from Jodi’s interview by The Give Back Yoga Foundation!
“Is there a standout moment from your work with CoCo?
It was my first volunteer gig. I was kicking off our first six-week program with SOS Foster Village, and I was teaching my first class. The awakening in the eyes of the kids, the trust and opening I saw in their body language and the freedom that touched my heart after just one class, sticks with me, and drives me forward to share that awakening, that confirmation of Oneness. When you finally make eye contact with the kid who walked in with shut-down hunched shoulders too fearful to look up, it’s that moment, that awareness that these kids see you as safe. It’s truly an inspiring sensation that I hope to support others to find. Serving kids is a gift that needs to be felt to fully understand how much joy there can be in service.”
