Picky eaters at home? We get it! And you’re not alone! We know getting little ones to explore all kinds of foods can be a challenge.
The good news? A balanced meal doesn’t have to be perfect. Even if there aren’t always veggies, that’s okay! Here are some tips to take the pressure off and make mealtimes more enjoyable:
Variety is the spice of life! Offer a mix of colorful fruits and veggies, whole grains like bread or crackers, and lean protein sources like cheese, chicken/turkey, or nut butter. This way, they get a range of nutrients and textures to keep things interesting.
Make it a playdate, not a power struggle! Cut sandwiches into fun shapes with cookie cutters. Serve your child their food using colorful plates and utensils. Playing with food can make them more curious about trying new things.
Positive vibes only! Instead of focusing on what they don’t eat, praise your child for trying new bites, even if they don’t become their new favorite. Who knows, maybe that green bean will be a hit tomorrow!
Remember, you’re a rockstar! Raising healthy eaters takes time and patience. Don’t get discouraged if things don’t always go perfectly. Keep offering a variety of foods, focus on making mealtimes fun, and celebrate their efforts! ⭐️🥣

AKP is happy to announce that 2 of our board certified music therapists have completed their Neurologic Music Therapy training and are now officially NMT’s.
Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) is a research-guided clinical system that is driven by advances in neuroscience and the understanding of the perception, cognition, and production of music and how music can influence and change non-musical brain and behavior function.
This specialized training is a wonderful added benefit to our Music Therapy clients. We are excited for them to implement the skills and techniques from their training to support the needs of AKP clients!

Get ready to keep the kiddos busy this summer! AKP’s summer program runs from June 21st to August 16th - let the fun begin!😎
Ever wonder why your child is a picky eater? It’s not always about being stubborn!
Think about it this way: fruits and veggies are like a surprise box. They can be sweet and yummy one time, then sour or mushy the next. Unlike crackers or puffs, there’s no guarantee of what you’ll get. This can be scary for kids who like things familiar!
So next time your child hesitates over a fruit or veggie, remember they’re not trying to be difficult. They’re just cautious!
Here are some tips to help:
Start small! Don’t overwhelm them with a huge portion. One or two blueberries are a great way to start.
Presentation matters! Just like you, your child wants fresh, yummy-looking fruits and veggies. Toss out any bruised or mushy ones! You too probably wouldn’t want eat those so it makes sense they wouldn’t either!
With a little patience and these tips, you can help your little one discover the delicious world of fruits and veggies! 🍓🍇🍌🥝🫐
We’re so excited to announce that AKP will be having a benefit classical music concert that aims to raise funds for a music therapy scholarship benefiting children with disabilities❤️ Every ticket sold brings us closer to empowering young lives through the healing power of music and art!! Feeling Stressed About Picky Eaters?😰
Many parents worry about their kids not eating vegetables. But guess what? Here’s a secret: Kids who love fruit can actually get their nutrients without needing tons of veggies! So take a deep breath and relax a little. Whew!
Of course, it’s great if they enjoy veggies eventually, but it might take time. Maybe they loved purees as a baby, but now only touch mashed potatoes? Don’t worry, that’s normal too!
Here’s the thing: forget what your parents might have done to get you to eat veggies. Tactics like “3 bites for dessert” or “finish your peas” can backfire.
Why? Because these methods:
Make veggies seem like a punishment and other foods a reward.
It teaches kids to ignore their body’s hunger cues and overeat.
It can actually turn them off to those veggies forever!
The goal? Empower your child to choose healthy foods and develop a natural love for veggies! Here’s how:
Offer veggies often, prepared in yummy ways! Try roasting, steaming, or dipping them. Raw broccoli might be a hard sell, but roasted with a sprinkle of cheese? Delicious!
Be a good role model! Kids learn by watching, so let them see you enjoying vegetables at mealtimes. (Even if you’re not a huge fan, having them on your plate is a good start!) ️
Make veggies fun! Let them help wash lettuce, cut cherry tomatoes with a safe knife, or pick out colorful veggies at the store.
Be patient! It takes time and exposure for kids to warm up to new foods. Don’t get discouraged, keep offering veggies in a positive way, and eventually they might just surprise you!

Has your child been a fussy eater lately? Here's why it might be happening, and what you can do!
Kids are little explorers, and sometimes big things happening in their world can make them act a little different, especially at mealtimes. Here are some reasons why your child's eating habits might change:
Being sick or teething! Feeling under the weather with a stuffy nose or teething pain can make eating less appealing.
New baby on the block? Even if they haven't met their new sibling yet, your child might be picking up on all the excitement (and maybe a little worry) and eating differently.
Busy bee! Big developmental leaps like walking, running, or talking a lot can take a lot of energy. It's normal for their appetite to adjust.
Life shake-up? Moving, living with new people, or a loss in the family can be stressful for little ones. Changes can affect their eating habits.
New places, new plates! Vacations or even just eating at a friend's house can be a change of pace, and your child might be hesitant to try new things.
Sound familiar? Just like you might not feel like your usual healthy meal when you're feeling off, your child might be going through something similar. Here's how to help them through it:
Breathe and relax! It's okay if your child doesn't eat everything you offer at every meal. Keep meal and snack times consistent as much as possible, and remember, their eating will naturally go up and down sometimes.
Family time = mealtime! Whenever you can, sit down and eat together. Kids learn by watching, and seeing you enjoy a variety of foods can help them do the same. Even if you can't stay for the whole meal, try to join them for a little while.
Make mealtimes fun! Especially during big changes or when a new baby is coming, focus on making mealtimes a positive experience for your child. They'll be more likely to want to eat if it's a happy time.
Keep offering variety! Even if your child seems stuck on a certain food right now (think endless bowls of toast!), keep offering them the healthy options you usually serve. They might just need to see it a few more times before they're ready to try it again.
Patience is key! Picky eating is usually temporary. Stay positive and keep offering healthy options –– your little one will get back to their usual eating habits soon!
An autism diagnosis can be a lot to take in at first.
But here’s the good news: it can be a key to unlocking how your amazing child sees the world. Knowing your child’s neurodiversity helps you support them in the best ways possible, so they can truly shine! Autism is simply a different way of being human.
Get the diagnosis. It empowers you to help your child thrive!
Then, let’s find support together. We can connect you with specialists who celebrate neurodiversity and can help your child with things like expressing themselves, managing feelings, making friends, and speaking up for what they need.
With love, the team at Always Keep Progressing❤️🚀
This Autism Acceptance Month, let’s move beyond awareness and embrace acceptance!💜
We’ve made strides in recognizing autism, but true inclusion requires a shift in focus. Awareness is great, but acceptance celebrates the unique strengths and perspectives autistic people bring to the world.
Imagine a world where sensory sensitivities are accommodated, where clear communication is valued, and where autistic individuals are empowered to pursue their passions. This benefits everyone! Autistic people are often incredibly creative, possess strong analytical skills, and bring fresh perspectives to problem-solving.
By creating a more accepting world, we unlock the full potential of autistic individuals and foster a richer, more diverse society. Let’s break down barriers, celebrate neurodiversity, and ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
