They think that artists are like prostitutes, and they set the price they want to use us and trample on the value of our work. Unfortunately, many musicians who have appeared or have negotiated their self-worth with these people work for a pittance. They call you to hire you and offer prices equivalent to a dishwasher's wage. It's a disgrace. Unfortunately, every day, I receive work requests from people who spend thousands of dollars on events, but when it comes to paying an artist, they do so miserably and humiliate them by offering prices that are completely unreasonable. They expect and demand songs from artists for their events, as if we were jukeboxes where you insert a coin and get your favorite song, and they demand that you play for many hours for their entertainment, as if we were Spotify. And then they pay the bare minimum as if they were paying a dishwasher. It's a disgrace. I'm glad when people tell me it's out of their budget. I don't miss the opportunity to tell them exactly what I'm writing now: they could buy a Bluetooth speaker and play music from Spotify, choose their playlist, and enjoy it. Period. It's disgraceful that they put a price on the art of professional musicians who have spent their entire lives working in our profession. But when they go to the doctor or have an illness or need surgery from another professional, they don't go to the hospital and tell the doctor, "Perform an operation and help me with my health, and I'll pay you $150." Nor do they do this with lawyers, engineers, architects, or any other professional. It's time to think and realize that artists deserve respect. And if you're an artist, it's very sad to see that in this 2024 music scene, there are many musicians giving away their art and bowing their loyalty and self-worth to work, talent, and art, while people benefit from our profession.

Piensan que los artistas somos como prostitutas, y ellos ponen el precio que quieren para usarnos y pisotear el valor de nuestro trabajo. Lamentablemente, muchos músicos que han aparecido o han negociado su autoestima con estas personas trabajan por una miseria. Te llaman para contratarte y te ofrecen precios equivalentes al salario de un lavaplatos. Es una vergüenza. Lamentablemente, todos los días recibo pedidos de trabajo de gente que gasta miles de dólares en eventos, pero a la hora de pagar a un artista, lo hacen miserablemente y lo humillan, ofreciendo precios totalmente ilógicos. Pretenden y exigen canciones de artistas para sus eventos, como si fuéramos máquinas de discos donde insertas una moneda y obtienes tu canción favorita, y exigen que toques muchas horas para su entretenimiento, como si fuéramos Spotify. Y luego pagan lo mínimo indispensable, como si le estuvieran pagando a un lavaplatos. Es una vergüenza. Me alegra cuando la gente me dice que está fuera de su presupuesto. No pierdo la oportunidad de decirles exactamente lo que estoy escribiendo ahora: podrían comprarse un altavoz Bluetooth y reproducir música de Spotify, elegir su lista de reproducción y disfrutarla. Punto. Es vergonzoso que pongan precio al arte de músicos profesionales que han pasado toda su vida trabajando en nuestra profesión. Pero cuando van al médico o tienen una enfermedad o necesitan cirugía de otro profesional, no van al hospital y le dicen al médico, "Hazme una operación y ayúdame con mi salud, y te pagaré 150 dólares". Tampoco hacen esto con abogados, ingenieros, arquitectos o cualquier otro profesional. Es hora de pensar y darse cuenta de que los artistas merecen respeto. Y si eres artista, es muy triste ver que en esta escena musical de 2024 hay muchos músicos regalando su arte y doblegando su lealtad y autoestima al trabajo, talento y arte, mientras la gente se beneficia de nuestra profesión.
