United Healthcare has implemented a gold card program, which applies to commercial, individual exchange and Medicare Advantage plans. It allows certain physician practices to not submit prior authorization requests for “certain medical, behavioral and mental health services,” according to a fact sheet released by the company.

Practices that earn gold card status must fill out a simple advance notification to confirm member eligibility and coverage for services.

To be eligible for gold card status, practices must show a prior authorization approval rate of 92% or higher for two consecutive years.

Grateful client after successfully resolving a denial of ABA services for an autistic child covered by Medicaid and administered by the Agency for Healthcare administration. The Agency had overlooked evidence of the need for services and approved services after and got involved. The child also had a federal right to receive the services and no true basis for denial existed.

On Monday, the Fifth Circuit appeared open to striking down Affordable Care Act requirements that force health insurance companies to cover a range of preventive treatments such as mammograms and HIV prevention medication. This is based on whether the ACA preventive care mandates are constitutional. Any decision could significantly influence health care policies and the political landscape.
