When assembling this list, I thought of mom-and-pop restaurants first, as always. Then, I sprinkled in some chain restaurants with more than respectable cheesesteaks.

I define a cheesesteak as chopped steak with melty cheese, which could lend itself to some unconventional sandwiches.

Alright, enough with that, I want to talk meatballs.

So last night at Vice City Pizza, we patiently waited for our pizza when half of a meatball parmigiana sub magically appeared at our table.

I know it’s only available at lunchtime, but last week, I posted my favorite meatball subs in the city. The powers that be at Vice City Pizza wanted to make sure that I didn’t leave without trying it.

We had already eaten the meatball appetizer, arancinis, and garlic bread, but this was a welcome surprise.

After my first bite, Nica Eddie snuck a bite. He wanted to save room for the pizza(s).

I ate the rest, which severely hindered my pizza intake for the night, but for the better good.

Not every day do you get to add a new addition to my Best Meatball Subs in Miami list.

I just picked up Wow Bao's Chicago-style Pizza Bao at Walmart. I don't think that it's gonna be as good as my love, the Cheeseburger Bao: https://burgerbeast.com/wow-bao-cheeseburger/

My parents order delivery from Rinconcito Latin on 8th Street, once to twice a week. If I happen to be there, I’n all about the pollo a la plancha with grilled onions, so simple yet so freakin’ good.

It’s like comida de p**a, who doesn’t love a couple of fried eggs over white rice?

BURGER BEAST FACTOID: 7 times out of ten, BB will eat a Pollo a la Milanesa at a Cuban Restaurant but in reality, the simple Pollo a la Plancha with grilled onions tastes better.

Wednesday, September 18th, is National Cheeseburger Day.

Plenty of local and national restaurants have deals, limited-time offers, and new sandwich debuts.

For example, Burger Beast’s Western Burger is available for a limited time at all 3 Shorty's BBQ restaurant locations. I’ll be enjoying one at the Shorty’s on Bird Road tomorrow at lunchtime.

Farmhouse BBQ is debuting three new burgers, including the Sloppy on Top and Cheeseburger Melt. The latter gets my vote.

Cuban Guys are offering a Buy One, Get One offer on their new Havana Burger, which is available for dine-in only.

But if the drive-thru is more your speed, McDonald’s is offering a 50-cent double cheeseburger through the app. Luckily, a bunch of them are relatively close to each other.

The Burger Beast Blog turns 16 tomorrow, Tuesday, September 10th.

From 6 to 8:30 p.m., I’ll be hanging out and celebrating at the McDonald’s across from Tropical Park in my beloved Westchester.

Only at this McDonald’s can you order the single or double fresh beef quarter pounders with Big Mac sauce on the artisan potato bun.

At 8:00 p.m., we’re cutting one of those old-school McDonald’s cakes while I sing fast food jingles.

This party is open to everyone, even people who eat and enjoy lettuce.

Did you know that two fellas from Boston started Casola’s Pizzeria?

Ramón Casola had a family recipe for red sauce, and Agustine Buñuel had been making Cuban sandwiches before they moved to Miami.

A few years later, Casola’s Pizzeria opened in 1982 with a walk-up window mainly serving pizza and subs.

I probably ate there for the first time in the late 1980s when my cousin Rick wanted me to try one of their pepperoni slices.

I’ve had a love-hate relationship with Casola’s over the years. But just a few days ago, we stopped in for lunch and probably ate the best slice I’ve ever eaten there.

We ordered a medium pepperoni pie and waited and waited. After more than 25 minutes, Marcela asked at the counter about our order.

It looked like our ticket got lost, so they gave us someone else’s medium pepperoni with extra cheese, which had been sitting above the oven.

Maybe it was the extra time heating, maybe it was the extra cheese? I think it was a combination of factors that made it so good.

But I’ll be back for the pterodactyl wings since it’s been at least ten years since our last lunch meeting.

Whenever I see imperfections in the breading of croquetas, I get excited.

These breading flaws generally mean that these meat sticks were made by hand.

I love frozen store-bought croquetas as much as the next guy. I even love the La Carreta wholesale croquetas from GFS that bakeries and restaurants try to pass off as their own.

But nothing beats a quality “hecho a mano” croqueta.
