The for women, particularly in leadership, is deeply rooted in both purpose and inclusivity. Purpose fuels a lifelong commitment to creating meaningful change, while inclusivity ensures that all voices are integral to that process. For women navigating and multifaceted identities, the joy often emerges from the interplay of these elements—working toward goals that not only reflect personal values but also amplify perspectives.

This collective effort enriches our cultural landscape, making it more vibrant and authentic. I see this embodied in Kamala Harris’s leadership and in the writings of Ursula K. Le Guin, both of whom champion the power of and , inspiring us to embrace our shared humanity in all its richness.

Embracing the celebrates the rich, blended heritage of Latinos across the Americas, honoring the deep roots that run through our shared history. Recent research shows that a growing number of Latinos, particularly among younger U.S.-born generations, are proudly identifying with their indigenous ancestry. With around 25% of Latino adults now recognizing themselves as indigenous or Native American, including groups such as Maya, Nahua, Taino, and Quechua, this shift reflects a powerful generational change. Younger Latinos are reconnecting with their roots, exploring their family histories, and reclaiming their identities, leading to a resurgence of indigenous pride. While terms like “Mestizo” still describe the mixed heritage of many, there is a rising recognition and celebration of the indigenous cultures that have long shaped Latin American identity.

Join us in embracing the as we honor and celebrate these vibrant, diverse indigenous legacies across the Americas!

Between 2007 and 2022, the share of Latinas ages 25 to 64 in financially egalitarian partnerships (where they earn between 40% and 60% of household income) rose from 24% to 28%, while the share acting as primary breadwinners increased from 10% to 13%. During this time, the percentage of Latinas with a spouse as the sole breadwinner fell from 66% to 59%. This shift shows how Latinas are not just contributing but increasingly leading their households’ financial growth.

Latinas are driving upward mobility and wealth creation within their households, despite ongoing pay disparities! 💪

From 2007 to 2022, Latinas’ role as financial leaders in their families grew significantly—those in financially egalitarian relationships rose from 24% to 28%, and those acting as breadwinners grew from 10% to 13%.

Yet, Hispanic women still face a pay gap. In 2023, they earned 80% of what White women made. While Latinas’ educational attainment has surpassed that of Hispanic men, more corporate opportunities and higher pay are critical for Hispanic women to fully realize their leadership potential. 🌱✨

By closing the and creating more opportunities for Latina leaders in the workforce, we can unlock the full potential of their contributions to driving multigenerational wealth creation.

One of the core pillars of is — which serves as a critical access point for many communities of color that often lack the benefits of inheritance or investment access. This issue is especially significant in Florida, where Hispanics and African Americans together constitute approximately 41.9% of the state’s total population as of 2024.

However, the path to homeownership is increasingly obstructed by corporate real estate investors, who are significantly impacting Black and Brown communities.

According to a first-of-its-kind analysis by the Tampa Bay Times, corporate landlords own more than 117,000 single-family homes across Florida. These investors, which include wealthy individuals, major building companies, and institutional investment firms, have capitalized on the state’s population growth and minimal renter protections.

The Times found that firms with ties to Wall Street and private equity own over 10% of Florida’s single-family rentals—a rate five times higher than the national average. Notably, these investors often target regions with median household incomes below county averages and have been acquiring properties at a faster rate in majority-Black or Hispanic neighborhoods. This practice is contributing to the erosion of homeownership opportunities, as these properties are repositioned as rentals for lower-income tenants, further limiting access to homeownership for these communities.

Looking ahead, projections suggest that by 2034, Hispanics and African Americans will make up nearly 46-47% of Florida’s population. As such, addressing barriers to homeownership and curbing the influence of corporate landlords in these communities will be crucial for ensuring equitable access to housing and fostering the state’s economic and social development.

What a wonderful way to end Mother’s Day weekend and kickoff with Dr. Stephanie Palacios’ endearing tribute to her — Colombian immigrant — Norma Luz. We’re inspired by the of who are paving the way for full access to better with the continued support of their mamás bravas.

“Norma Luz, mi mama brava, embarked on a journey of courage and love when she left her cherished family and home in Bogota, Colombia to build a new life in the US. Her bold decision was led by adventure and love for the man she would marry. She mastered English as her third fluent language and her nurturing spirit, unwavering support and enthusiasm for learning inspired her 20+yr career as a kindergarten and Spanish teacher, where she helped shape the minds of young children. Forty years later, my parents remain strong, happy and in love!

My mom instilled in me a sense of adventure, love for languages, belief in romance and love, and a refusal to allow anything (or anyone) get in the way of the life we dream of living. Norma Luz has a magnetic presence and easily makes friends everywhere she goes! She carries herself with the feminine grace born from another era and a sense of confidence that I have always admired. Her laughter is contagious and plentiful, and her culinary genius is unparalleled. I visit her as often as I possibly can and treasure our time together, because I know how lucky I am to have her as my mom. She is my best friend, my mentor, my guiding light, my inspiration, and my motivation. She is mi mama brava!“

hoy y siempre.

The immigrant story is one of fear, loneliness, despair, adventure, growth, and enlightenment. That’s how I’d describe my beautiful ’s life.

Like so many before her, our beautiful mamás were willing to work around the clock, in factories, in whatever job paid, to feed their children as they learned the language, settled in a new land, and expanded their horizons by leveraging their education, grit, optimism, and sense of belonging, never giving up on their aspirations. They safeguarded their children from political unrest to famine, as many endured in the wave of European immigrants at the turn of the century.

Mothers are sacred, and Mother’s Day is a day to pay homage to their legacy.

Raising successive and ‘good’ human beings speaks to their sacrifices not being in vain.

I will never be half the woman my mother became; I fall short, but I’m humbled by knowing I’m her daughter.

Porque, hoy y siempre. 🌷💞✨

Wishing all these brave mamás here and around the world a Happy Mother’s Day.

With much love to Maria Gladys Alcantara, your daughter, Gabriela Alcantara-Diaz 🩷

Inspired by stories from our series, including Ileana Musa, Head of International Wealth Management at Morgan Stanley, and how she reflects on her mother’s mantra, “El No ya lo Tienes,” emphasizing the importance of education and hard work instilled by her mother, Elsa, who fled Cuba for a better life.

“In 1970 she was the only one from her family who was able to leave Cuba with her three young children, all under the age of five; she was not able to return until the 1990s. Throughout that time she worked multiple jobs to support her children while instilling in them a strong work ethic and passion for education. All three children completed a college education and Elsa herself returned to school at almost 70 to complete her degree. Part of her mantra “El No Ya Lo Tienes” inspired her to always ask and take risks that supported her vision for a better life. Similar to the many people who supported Elsa throughout her life, her family is grateful to have the opportunity to pay it forward by supporting students in honor of Elsa’s legacy. The family is excited to see the impact this scholarship will have on the students and their future. They hope that Elsa’s story will inspire them to stay the course, reach new heights and continue to pay it forward.”

Wishing all our Hispanic-Latinas mamás bravas around the world a Happy Mother’s Day.
