Miami Beach High School coach Jim Kroll is pictured in 1989. Kroll retired with a career record of 213-137-1 in 33 seasons. His 213 career victories are second most in Miami-Dade County history behind only Rich Stuart of Belen Jesuit. A native of Chicago, Kroll began his coaching career in Evergreen Park, Illinois. From 1972 to 1977, he led Evergreen Park High School to a 39-23 record including an 11-1 season in his final year. Looking for a change of scenery and a bigger challenge, he moved to South Florida in 1978 and never left. Over the next three decades he coached at Southwest Miami, Miami Beach and Miami Palmetto High Schools, racking up victories and guiding countless student-athletes to a college education.
Although Kroll sports an impressive career record, a state championship eluded him. His career playoff record was just 1-8. He didn't have the luxury of coaching at traditional powerhouse programs. But everywhere he went, he left the program in much better shape. His 1984 Miami Beach team finished the regular season undefeated. His teams were remarkably consistent and rarely had a losing season. Among Kroll's former players include:
Ken Sisk- Southwest Class of 1979
Ron Harris - Southwest Class of 1980
Michael Dames - Miami Beach Class of 1984
Demetrius Brown - Miami Beach Class of 1985
Edgar Benes - Miami Beach Class of 1985
Mike Morris - Miami Beach Class of 1987
Charles Addison - Miami Beach Class of 1988
Dave Thomas - Miami Beach Class of 1989
Harold Ragin - Miami Beach Class of 1990
Zev Lumelski - Miami Beach Class of 1990
Duane Starks - Miami Beach Class of 1993
Terry Cousin - Miami Beach Class of 1993
Samari Rolle - Miami Beach Class of 1994
Chad Johnson - Miami Beach Class of 1996
Cecil Sapp - Miami Palmetto Class of 1998
Chris Myers - Miami Palmetto Class of 2000
Corey Kinsey - Miami Palmetto Class of 2001

Peter Clarke Chace
Feb 17, 1949 - Aug 14, 2021
Peter Clarke Chace, 72, of Miami, Florida passed away at home on August 14, 2021. Husband, father, adored grandfather, brother, and friend, Peter is survived by his wife of 46 years, Evelien.
Peter was born in Fall River, Massachusetts to Marjorie Ruth Chace Jewett and Hollister Chace and raised in Lima, Peru and Fall River. In 1977 he moved to Miami with his wife Evelien, to be close to his beloved mother Marjorie. There they had five children - all girls - a great source of pride for Peter. He is survived by his six children: Alexandra, Emily, Stephanie, Margaret, Caroline and Michael; and eight grandchildren: Sophia and Charlotte “Lola”; Natalie and Oliver; Olympia; Jack; Chloe and Quinn. He is also survived by his sisters: Holly Chace and Leslie Chace Zielke.
Peter was a founding member of Our Lady of Lourdes church in West Kendall and taught CCD classes there. He was a long-time regular at the Hammocks Sports Grill, and could often be seen at the bar watching a Patriots or Red Sox game among friends or taking his grandchildren for treats around the community. He was known for his sense of humor, generosity, and was loved by family, and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Kacey Bethel has worked her last shift. We are grateful for having her with us for the last ten years. We wish her the best in returning to flying the friendly skies. ♥️
