Dear Miami Country Day Families,

The entire Miami Country Day community is committed to standing in strength and in support of our neighbors affected by the tragedy at the Champlain Towers. MCDS has donated 62 laptop computers to the families displaced by the tragedy and 50 cases of water to support the work of the first responders and meet the needs of those at the family reunification center. Through the student led initiative, community cares, you too can make a difference.

Starting today we will be collecting backpacks, luggage, all personal hygiene items, underwear and socks as we are told these will do the most good at this time. All donations can be placed in the collection bins at the campus North and South security gates.

The donations will be brought to the site daily until we are notified that all needs have been met.

GATEway isn’t just for students. This week, a group of PK3-12 faculty and administrators is in San Antonio, TX planning the next chapter of MCDS’ global initiatives, including our continued work on weaving diversity, equity, and belonging into our community fabric. And, yes, we sightsee too! Here at the Alamo.

Today MCDS’ GATEway and Global Studies programs became only the 7th school in the world to be granted the prestigious Global Education Benchmark Group’s Standards Endorsement. This designation signifies our programs comply with and exceed all standards as set forth for global experiential education as well as safety. Thanks to everyone who has supported our programs in the past, those who have traveled with us, and those who have GATEway in their future. Let’s learn about and travel the world! 🌍

Congratulations to this year’s recipient of the GATEway-Nixdorf Prize for Global Citizenship, Daniela Loverde! Daniela has traveled with GATEway and X-Term to China, Geneva (2x), Milan (2x), and Honduras, and would have gone to Dublin and London had Covid not interfered. She recently earned the Global Studies Diploma Endorsement by researching and proving how caffeine is the great global unifier. She is a story teller and a true global citizen. Congratulations! 🎉 🌍
