HOW TO CORRECTLY PAY A CREDIT CARD!
1) Find your due date on your statement. Now that you have it, FORGET IT. NEVER worry about it again, wipe it fron the calendar, it never existed. Due dates are for calculating interest charges on the card only, not for utilization. So it does not matter what the interest rate is on a card since you never pay any as long as you pay your previous statement balance in full.
2) Now find the statement date, also called closing date or cycle end date. Put that date in big red letters on everything in the house. The kids forehead, calendars, front door glass, bathroom mirror, you get the idea.
3) Now two days BEFORE that date, pay down your card balance to 1-4% of the card limit. So if you have a $300 limit you need to pay down the balance so there is $3 to $12 left on the card. Leave it with a balance. The credit card will report to the credit bureau that you have 1-4% utilization for that card. This is the BEST percentage for FICO score boost.
4) Now this step is an important part to remember. Soon as your statement closes and reports, your due date will show the min due in 20 or so days away. This is the date you have to pay by to avoid any interest, but we dont care!. Now 2 days after the statement date, you know the one wrote in big red letters all over the house? Pay the card balance off back to Zero. Now you have already made the min payment due by the due date and avoided any interest charges.
5) You have eliminated your due date, reported the best utilization, and avoided any interest payments all with in 4 days. Now your card has a zero balance and you can use it as much as you want. You can MAX the card, pay it down again, MAX again, do what ever you like. BUT, look for your next cycle end date and start all over again. Go back to step 2 for that date. Repeat every month. You will never pay interest, can maximize your rewards if it is a rewards card and still get a great FICO boost.

🔺Today I was at Red Lobster, in Plaza las Américas in San Juan (a habit I have since Long Island where I used to work). We always ask to sit near the window of the restaurant and from there I saw a man sitting on the bench next to the restaurant. He was staring at us through the glass the whole time we were eating.
While he looked at us, I commented to my husband how sad the man looked. I asked the person who served us about the man and he told me that he had been sitting there for a week.
Since I had ordered a portion of food to go, I decided to pack it for him and at the same time ask him about his story (which I was sure he would have).
So here it is:
His name is Luis Enrique Medina García, he is 42 years old. When I asked him where he lives, eats, sleeps, he replied that:
- Lives in the street
-eats leftovers he finds in the trash
- is from Fajardo, PR
- Lived in the Nemesio R. Canales projects
He told me that some people hit him on the head, they stole all his documents, he was hospitalized in the United States and he doesn't remember anything else.
He showed me a Frontier airline ticket, showing that he came from Philadelphia to San Juan on May 22, 2022; Some unknown people paid for the flight. He says that he lived with a friend in the United States but he doesn't remember where.
I asked him if he uses drugs and he said no. I asked him about his family and he told me that he has always been alone.
I am telling you this so that you can share it, to see if we can help this human being who seems to be lost.
Remember that today it's him, but tomorrow it could be you, me or a family member who ends up in this situation.
This is Luis; I asked permission to photograph him.

Tax season is almost here. It's time to start gathering your documents and preparing yourself to file! Here are a few things we recommend you do to make filing easier:
📌Gather your personal information and the information of anyone else who may file with you (spouse, dependents)
📌Gather all forms of income (W2s, 1099, investment funds, business income, social security income, etc)
📌Make sure you have a copy of your previous year's return as a reminder of what you filed the previous year and what documents you used
📌Speak with your tax provider about any adjustments you may need to make to lessen your tax (IRA contributions, HSA contributions, self-employed insurance premium, etc)
📌Open a bank account with a Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) bank. This will allow your funds to be direct deposited and add a layer of security to your funds
If you are a tax preparer now is the time to:
🔹Start educating your clients on the documents they need
🔹Get your systems and software set up
🔹Educate yourself on tax laws
🔹Start networking
🔹Reaching back out to your previous clients
🔹Marketing your business
Spreading this information for those of you that don’t have your affairs in order. Make sure all bank accounts have direct beneficiaries. The beneficiary need only go to the bank with your death certificate and an ID of their own.
- TOD = Transfer On Death deed if you own a home. Completing this document and filing it with your county saves your heirs THOUSANDS. This document allows you to transfer ownership of your home to your designee. All they need to do is take their ID and your death certificate to the county building and the deed is signed over. Doing this will avoid the home having to go through probate.
- Living Will: Allows one to put in writing exactly what you want done in the event you cannot speak for yourself when it comes to healthcare decisions
- Durable Power of Attorney: Allows one to designate a person to make legal decisions if one is no longer competent to do so.
- Power of Attorney for Healthcare: This document allows one to designate someone to make healthcare decisions for their person.
- Last Will and Testament: Designates to whom personal belongings will go too.
- Funeral Planning Declaration: allows one to say exactly one’s wishes as far as disposition of the body and the services.
- If the above documents are done, you can AVOID probate. If all the above is not done, you have to open an estate account at the bank. All money that doesn’t have direct beneficiaries goes into this account. You have to have an attorney to open the estate account. The attorney also has to publicize your passing in the newspaper or post publication at the county courthouse, to allow anyone to make a claim on your property. - It’s a complete PAIN.
- Make a list of all banks and account numbers, all investment institutions with account numbers, lists of credit cards, utility accounts, etc. Leave clear instructions as to how and when these things are paid. Make sure heirs knows where life insurance policies are located.
- Make 100% sure SOMEONE knows your Apple ID, bank ID account logins and passwords!
- Make sure you have titles for all vehicles, campers, etc!
- MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!! - Talk with those closest to you and make all your wishes KNOWN. Talk to those whom you’ve designated, as well as those close to you whom you did not designate. - Do this to explain why your decisions were made and to avoid any lingering questions or hurt feelings.
Hope this helps! Hope this lights a spark to encourage all your friends and family to take care of these things to make it easier for those we all leave behind!
My hope is that the above list at least helps you start an important conversation with your loved ones.

TAX UPDATE - Modification to Reporting Requirements for Third Party Network Transactions
Tax preparers with clients that are sole proprietors need to be aware that beginning in 2022 they will be more likely to receive a 1099-K (Payment Card and Third-Party Transactions) if they receive income for goods and services from a third-party payment network, such as Venmo, Cash App or Zelle.
The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 which became law in March 2021 included a modification to the when a third-party network provider must report business transactions to their users and the IRS on a Form 1099-K beginning in 2022.
The reporting threshold has been lowered from $20,000 to $600 for transactions that occur beginning in 2022. The legislation also removed the 200 transaction minimum.
This means that if an individual receives $600 or more in payments (even if it is for only one transaction) for goods and services from a third-party payment network in 2022, they will receive a Form 1099-K in early January 2023.
For those clients who have been missing payments for the Child Tax Credit in September& October, check your portals.
The IRS just sent massive payments to those who were affected by the glitch and you may have pending payments.
Continuing Education is a must in the tax professional industry. Make sure your Tax person is is up to date with the appropriate credentials and knowledge to better assist you.
