2023 saw so much momentum on large and impactful projects!
What was initially planned as just a parking garage has evolved into The Franklin at 11th Street Station.
The South Shore stop will include retail and public space as well as apartments as another avenue to add housing to our community.

This morning Don & I attended the 2023 Fall Commercial & Industrial Real Estate Update in Michigan City, hosted by EDCMC. Very informative info from Steve Pawlek of LaPorte County Assessor's Office of last year's stats compared to 2023. Also updates from Clarence Hulse of EDCMC on the wide variety of developments planned in Michigan City. Photos are the most updated renderings of the SoLa Hotel and new Michigan City train station with the high speed train from Chicago. Lot to look forward to in this beautiful area! Groundbreaking event for SoLa "south of the lake" hotel complex was a few weeks ago-that was an exciting event that we also attended :)

We thoroughly enjoyed the ChicagoBuild Expo today- super cool new materials for home owners including electricity-free cooling technology with a high tech paint (not sure about the bug connection with that one:)) and loved the solid stone shower tiles from a company in Spain. Learned about many new products for home renovations. And the Tinman is clearly all set for Halloween!

I recently attended a certification course to learn how to handle the details of home purchase needs of active duty & former military home buyers. It was a terrific training by a very dedicated instructor. Plus the keynote speaker was incredibly inspiring: Retired Navy SEAL Lieutenant Jason Redman. We also met a K-9 for Veterans service dog & his trainer. It was a memorable day.

The flexibility of working remotely is a game changer for home buyers. Working from a home & location that is based on your preferences, rather than your work commute offers so many more possibilities! I'm seeing firsthand a significant increase in the number of showings at our listings, followed by solid offers. There is a definite uptick of housing market activity in both the western suburbs of Chicago & Northwest Indiana.

Lower Mortgage Rates Are Bringing Buyers Back to the Market As mortgage rates rose last year, activity in the housing market slowed down. And as a result, homes started seeing fewer offers and stayed on the market longer. That meant some homeowners decided to press pause on selling.
