1228 votes have been cast from 7 AM TO 7 PM daily Monday the 20th thru Friday the 24th this past week, there was 148 cast by mail in ballot!

On average 200 to 300 people vote per day. If this holds true for this coming Tuesday the 28th run off Election Day more than likely LESS THAN 2000 people total will vote to elect people to very important positions within the county government!

Sadly enough LESS THAN 2000 people will decide the fate of what the entire County, roughly 35K people will have in those offices!

My point to this post is “GO VOTE” no matter who it is for. In my opinion if you don’t vote you can’t gripe!

When I served at the Allen Police Department I was asked to serve two tours in Internal Affairs/Professional Standards Unit, for those who may not be familiar with this in police work it is the office of “hiring and firing”. I also conducted testing and backgrounds at the Bonham Police Department as well. And now for the Trenton Police Department!

Not many people are chosen twice for that office. I have conducted MANY backgrounds and hired many new people for all positions in police work at all three of the police departments I’ve worked for. And sadly enough I’ve had to investigate police officers for misconduct and terminate them too.

Terminating someone’s lively hood is very serious and can have far reaching consequences to not only the person terminated but their family as well. Personnel matters like this should be handled discreetly, professionally and with compassion no matter how you feel about or view the person in question. A little respect goes a long way!

It has been circulating that I have said I was keeping every one that is currently working at the Sheriff’s office, my response to that is how can I tell ANYONE they do or don’t have a position there before I’m elected. Again personnel matters can be embarrassing for some and should be handled by an experienced professional with the training and knowledge in that field to ensure the most positive outcome for all.

Think about it for a moment, if you worked for the Sheriff’s Office and one of the candidates running “PUBLICLY” stated they were going to fire you when elected, how would you feel!

Again this is the difference between having the training and experience and putting it to use over my career, not just having some certificates .

Don’t be misled by false transparency, experience, or the lack of integrity. Again I am producing my TCOLE PSR in true transparency to show my hard earned training hours thru my career tenure! I’ve conducted myself accordingly, and done all that was required of me for every hour on this PSR.

I have also heard it said that my training is not the latest up to date training, so to clear the misconceptions up; Human Trafficking, Cybercrimes, Child Abuse, Report Writing etc. ANY Police training class no matter the subject matter is the same class of instruction for every officer when it is taken. No officer gets anything different from any of the others regardless of when they take the courses!

I view this campaign as a job interview, and I’m honestly and openly giving you all my information for you to make a good informed decision, wouldn’t you want to know the background, qualifications, experience and legitimate training of ALL candidates running.

A vote for me is a vote for real honesty, integrity, and transparency!

Let’s talk plans, this ONE I have also previously discussed with people!

6. Again I want to address staffing issues. I want to work toward a staffing minimum for patrol, I would like to have a minimum of four (4) deputies per shift with a Sergeant and a Lieutenant also! I want to split the county into four sectors; north east, north west, south east, and south west, each deputy would be responsible for their respective sectors. If a deputy got a high priority call in his or her sector one of the others could move up or over and the Sergeant could respond as well! You then have three officers on that call with one being a supervisor and there is still three available units with one being a supervisor!

Each deputy would have a smaller area that they were responsible for, therefore getting to know the residents on a more personal level. The Officer would have a greater knowledge of the needs of the area. The Officer would know what is out of place and could more effectively community police to protect and serve!

Let’s talk plans, this is ONE that I have discussed with many people!

4. I plan to address and diligently work on increasing staff. I plan to have an existing employee assigned as the TRAINING COORDINATOR. They will analyze training requirements for each individual Officers needed training and get them on a consistent path to achieving their next certificate levels along with mandatory training that is required to stay current! This person will oversee the scheduling of training classes to be hosted here in accordance with the TCOLE training contract I previously discussed!

5. I plan to utilize the current PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS position to perform the following task, this employee will be highly trained to conduct professional background investigations on ALL candidates that seek a position with the Jail/Sheriff’s Office to vette the most qualified candidates and have professionals in your Sheriff”s Office! They will also investigate Police misconduct/complaint cases, including Criminal misconduct (in conjunction with other appropriate authorities) and Administrative misconduct for the Sheriff’s Office! They will make progressive discipline recommendations to the command staff.

3. Community safety for cities in the county that have no police department and rely on the Sheriff’s Office!

I plan to have a RESIDENT DEPUTY program. I have already spoke to one of the cities in the county that is on board with this concept! The city will give some perks for a deputy to live in the city limits and be a visible presence throughout that community, this will assist in the deterrence of unwanted activity and instill a greater sense of safety and security community wide!

2. PUBLIC RELATIONS: I plan to implement a Sheriff”s Citizen Academy to bridge the gap between the public and the Sheriff’s Office, this will allow the public inside access to the office and officers and build a relationship of trust and It will foster public ownership as well!

A spin off of the Citizens Academy will be a Citizen’s on Patrol program. This will help to have extra eyes out in the community patrolling the county. These folks will be an asset to the deputies also by helping with certain task in the field and freeing up some time better spent by the Deputies.

Let’s talk plans, here is ONE of them that I talked about back in the Republican Women’s forum!

1. TRAINING: I plan to work on training personnel from communications to patrol and CID (criminal investigations) I plan to have a training contract with TCOLE, with this agreement I can bring training, quality diverse progressive training, the latest greatest most current trends in policing techniques to the office for not only the Sheriff’s Deputies and personnel but to every agency in the county!

This can be free training for officers and departments! The contract with TCOLE can be paid for out of the training budget, Lasalle puts $10 k in the budget each year, there will even be money left over for additional training.
I also intend to have all officers certified as TCOLE Instructors and Mental Health Peace Officers. We will have regular training in house on high liability task, along with policies and procedures.

I was the Training Coordinator at Allen PD for 6 years, I was in charge of these same duties along with many others. It can be done and I can do it!

With experience comes age and vice versa you don’t get one without the other it’s inevitable just as youth is to inexperience. Neither way is a bad thing it is a matter of perspective or opinion as to how it is applied by the individual and the situation it is relevant to! Older people don’t necessarily want to be old, younger people most often times can’t wait to be older, it’s called LIFE!

In running this race for Sheriff I’m not looking for another retirement, I have one, I’m not looking for a short term run, I plan to seek re-election, I’m working on it right now, I’m not looking for my name on a building, I’m not looking for my name on a street sign, I’m not looking for a bigger pay check, I can make more money and have a way better retirement where I’m at. I don’t have to leave my current employment as a matter of fact I was given a substantial raise in hopes that I would stay. Citizens purposely didn’t vote for me in the primary in hopes that I would not leave.

I started preparing and training for this opportunity to serve as the Sheriff of Fannin County at the beginning of my career. I reluctantly left the Bonham Police Department to join the Allen Police Department for the experience and preparation for this opportunity. This isn’t something I just decided a year or two ago. I love this county it is and has been my home nearly all my life, I plan to be here until my last breath! I plan to serve here in the county for many more years.

I have never been fired from a job, I’ve never been ask to leave a job in lieu of termination, I’ve never been suspended or put on administrative leave, I’ve never had any license I hold in jeopardy of revocation, termination or denial. I’ve never been sued and I have never sued anybody.

Anyone is welcome to see my TCOLE report (already previously posted but I will post a more current one) anyone is welcome to see my resume. I encourage people to contact my previous and current employer’s if you want to verify anything for yourself!

You see it’s not easy to run for public office and not just anyone WILL STEP UP TO DO IT and if I were looking for easy street or to be retired on duty I sure wouldn’t be asking you for the most stressful and critical Law Enforcement position in the county! I’m asking to serve you as the Sheriff because I believe in the ideas, visions and goals I have for the office. I’m asking to serve as Sheriff because I believe I’m the best candidate for the office. I will better protect you, your families and friends.
