What is a summer intensive? A summer ballet or dance intensive is a program where dancers learn from a variety of teachers in different styles or techniques with daily back-to-back classes over the period of a week or more. This intense training meant to develop a dancer’s artistry, technique, and confidence. Regardless of whether a student plans to pursue a career in professional dance, summer intensives yield many worthwhile benefits. Long hours and challenging classes build students’ work ethic, endurance, and problem solving skills. Training in unfamiliar styles promotes adaptability and willingness to try new things. Working with new instructors and peers teaches one how to conduct themselves professionally in any environment. Dancing with new people fosters teamwork and healthy competition. Lastly, dance intensives are FUN! Spending each day dancing, moving, and expressing with friends in a safe environment is a great way for students to continue learning and expanding. We hope you'll join us for one of our intensives this summer. Visit midlandfestivalballet.org to learn more and register.🩰☀️

Aladdin and the Magic Carpet, MFB's first ballet to utilize flying dancers, is airing on Basin PBS at 8pm Friday March1. 🧞📺🩰 We couldn't create an Aladdin ballet and not have flying, I mean... OF COURSE it'll have flying! 🤣😱 This aspect of the performance was tricky. There were signigicant chunks of the ballet that simply couldn't be worked out until the right equipment was in place and we could practice on it. We're talking just 2 days before the performance! 😳 It's as challenging technically to work with as it is artistically. I mean, I guess it's easier than defying gravity... Regardless, we pulled it off thanks to the dedication and patience of everyone involved. 👏 The result was nothing short of magical. 🤩 🎥 Excerpts from Filmhunter Media's Making Magic, a documentary about the creation of Aladdin and the Magic Carpet.

Aladdin and the Magic Carpet, MFB's first ballet to utilize projected backdrops, is airing on Basin PBS at 8pm Friday March 1! 🧞📺🩰 Using projected backdrops opens a world of possibilities for theater productions. We found what we loved most about it is that you could incorporate movement in the scenery/in the background. It really helps draw the audience even further into the world the ballet has created. It also makes transitioning between scenes quicker, seamless, more dynamic, and engaging. We're fans, and hope to use them again in the future. Thank you Justin Locke! 🎥excerpts from Filmhunter Media's Making Magic, a documentary about the creation of Aladdin and the Magic Carpet.

Aladdin and the Magic Carpet, MFB's 1st full length ballet, choreographed by @Jill Bahr, is airing on Basin PBS at 8pm Friday March 1! 🎉📺🩰🧞😍 Over the past 30 years, MFB has actually commissioned over 65 original dances, ranging anywhere between 3 and 25 minutes. But commissioning a full length ballet was a whole other level of project for us. Two full acts of dancing, sets, costumes, music, lights, and on top of that projections and flying...we'll admit, it wasn't easy. 🤪 But the end result was something incredibly special. 😍 We're proud of our Aladdin, and so happy Jill trusted us enough to work with us newbies when making her vision a reality. 🙏
