And we’re back! Our Company and Junior Company dancers just finished learning George Skibine’s The Firebird, the featured ballet of their March 2025 performance. We all thoroughly enjoyed master teacher Thom Clower in town leading rehearsals, as well as all of the guest dancers of the cast!
The dancers learned the entire ballet in just three days – a 30-minute ballet with only 18 hours of rehearsal. Even for professionals, that’s a fast pace. And keep in mind, they won’t perform this ballet until March. They’ll learn and perform The Nutcracker between now and then. The Company often learns as much of the spring choreography as possible before Nutcracker rehearsals begin. They’ll periodically run through the ballet throughout the fall to make sure the dancers remember the basics. This way, they can get right to work refining it in the spring. It just shows how focused, determined, and talented these Company dancers are. Great job everyone!

Next Tuesday is Permian Basin Gives, a special day where area residents create meaningful impact through the non-profits that serve our community. We thought it was only fitting to also honor an amazing woman whose generosity and passion for dance continues to affect the arts landscape in Midland: our Founding Director, Judy Coleman.
Judy had a vision to create performance opportunities that would enrich the lives of her students and audiences alike. We know the art form comes at many costs: time, energy, and, of course, money. The Judy Coleman Scholarship Fund will help dancers-in-need continue their dance education by easing the financial burden of tuition and/or making necessary equipment more accessible.
