Yesterday I went to a funeral that brought up a lot of emotions. Tonight we went to see Inside Out 2 with the family and it was the best. Family is definitely what matters most. I see why God made it out first ministry🙏🏽💙

Transparency post….

Within the last 6-8 weeks, my family and I have had to overcome some adversity on every angle. I know it sounds crazy, but I’m grateful for it!

Recently, I went to a men’s conference in Maryland and got caught in the rain, which had me out of commission for a week with a nasty cold🤦🏽‍♂️

After that, once I started to fully recuperate my son sprained his foot after recovering a fumble in overtime for his team the week after. This had us in urgent care on Mother’s Day!😯

This weekend while we were at the beach we got news that someone close to us was in the hospital.🙏🏽

Within the last two months, we have had to release some really big accounts with our tax and bookkeeping business because there’s a time and season for everything.

🙏🏽This is why my spiritual life is such a big part of who I am. Not just going to church, but practicing what I learn there. Honestly during all of this, I’ve missed more church services than I have in a while😔but since it’s about God, I haven’t been missing Him.

I’m being honest but…..This is not a pity party post so don’t get it twisted💯

👏🏽👏🏽In between all of this, we have hired some amazing staff, gained a lot of traction with our mental health company, strengthened some relationships with friends and family, got to experience my daughter’s junior prom, saw my son makes some amazing strides in a sport that he’s struggled with, and more than anything ~ learned that God is always there even when things seem a bit unraveled. I refuse to be shaken up or distracted by anything that I see with my natural eyes. And make a conscious decision to run forward into the battle with full confidence, knowing that we always win💪🏽

As always, I’m a work in progress and hope that this little bit of honest sharing can possibly help someone.

Last night, my Bishop was talking about humility at church and it made me think about the process of getting this business started.

When I used to work with Turbotax for all of those years, helping to make Intuit tons of money by giving their clients tax advice, I always wondered how I would be able to do it myself.

How would I get the clients? What kind of software would I use? Would people come back if I did their taxes? What if I ran into a situation that I didn’t have an answer for?

Then God started leading us to some awesome training courses. He the led us to great CPAs and enrolled agents to answer any questions that I didn’t know the answer to.

I taught me that in business, it’s so important to know what you don’t know and surround yourself with the people and resources that have the knowledge you need. I’m so glad I approached the business this way because it allowed me to grow in the areas where I needed it, and this is definitely what I still do on a daily basis!

Sometimes you run across dishonest people that just want to take advantage of your ignorance, but you can’t let that stop you. I’ve seen that God will lead good people to someone that has the right heart. Our heart has always been on serving people and being good stewards of what God has given us. I’m a life long learner!!

I hope this helps someone not to give up if you don’t know everything. Keep fighting to find out what you need so that you can get to wherever it is that you want to go!

Your kids can be put on payroll!!

😯This way all of their one off costs like the dentist, prom, kids going out with their friends, and other things that aren’t really related to business can be deducted.

Here’s what you do……

😎Make sure you have a child of age that can actually work in your business
😎Give them a job (Shredding paper, deleting junk emails, taking your pictures for social media, mailing thank you cards to your clients, etc)
😎Pay them less than the standard deduction amount for 2024 which is $14,600 as a W2 wage earner (Not an independent contractor)
😎Pay for those one off expenses from the account that their salary is being deposited into

Imagine having an extra write off each of $14,600!!

This weekend was great! I’m so thankful to God that we are able to support our daughter even on an invitational meet in the hills of Lexington, VA at VMI then roll to church this morning. As my man of God says we’re blessed to be a blessing. Being in position to serve God, people and the my family is why I do what I do.

The holidays are so amazing! At the end of the day, God and family is what matters the most. My wife took this picture after she wore us out decorating the house for Christmas🤣

Everybody has their thing that they do to unwind and ours is horseback riding. After the tax deadline on Monday, we needed something peaceful. Being that my wife is a horse person we’ve gotten into this and it’s so relaxing. I love the time with my country girl!

The client appreciation event today with Ivy League Realty was amazing!

🙏🏽As clients we would not use anyone else for real estate and it was a privilege to show up as a client and vendor today. It’s amazing to see how God connects peace and I’m so glad we’re connected to the best realtor ever!👏🏽👏🏽

Quick story….

I went to the barbershop last week (Yes I’m bald with a barber). My barber told me that he had a bad cold and a fever that day so he was going to have someone else trim up and dye my beard instead of him. That was a nice gesture, but my question to him was why he didn’t go home because he was a walking germ that day.

Unfortunately, he chose to stay AND cut hair. Trust me, this isn’t to throw him under the bus because he’s a great guy, but I don’t think it was too wise to pass all those germs around the barbershop that day. In turn, yesterday I woke up feeling miserable with a fever!

Thank God I have some secret weapons and a great wife who prays over and supports me. My secret weapons are natural remedies and prayer. Due to all of these things, I was able to sweat out the fever last night, and feel so much better today!

With the cold season coming up, I found that it has helped me to have these things in the house…..

When you're using a car for business use it's so important to use a mileage log or a mileage app because it’s a requirement of the IRS to have your mileage documented if it’s being deducted on your tax return.📝

I’ve found that most people don’t like using mileage apps, and the old fashioned way is to use a paper notebook or journal to document each trip.

Another tax deadline is almost here!

😉September 15th is the partnership and multi-member LLC business tax extension deadline if your business files a calendar year Form 1065 and filed a business tax extension this year.

😉September 15th is also the S corporation business tax extension deadline if your business files a calendar-year Form 1120-S and filed an extension this year. Does not apply to the owner’s personal tax return, just the business return.
