Carolyn and I met at our first jobs working for a commercial office furniture dealership years ago. (Shout out to our BKM friends!) These kinds of projects are always fun for us as we get to incorporate branding for our clients and help them complete their vision for their company. We also love our furniture dealers and material vendors. So keep an eye out here as we feature more of these projects this week. This space is a common area we designed for in Fairfield CT.

Mixing it up.
Ceramic tile transitions in a playful way to the wood flooring that runs throughout the rest of the house. Coordinating this installation was a team effort between us, the tile installer and the contractor. We love challenges and it is details like this that we love to create to make our clients homes unique.

Transformation Tuesday
Let there be light! This dark girl’s bathroom transformed from a claustrophobic space to one that while still small in footprint feels twice as big. It also doesn’t feel like a child’s room any longer. Sophisticated marble tile and soft gray tones make it feel much more grown up.

Sweet 16!
We are celebrating 16 years of Shelter Interiors this year. It’s hard to believe since it feels like yesterday. Who knew when we met 25 years ago, at our first design jobs, that we would come together and create our own interior design firm. We have accomplished so much in our partnership - nationally published projects, awards, magazine spreads but most importantly homes and projects for clients who have become friends. Homes where families are creating lifelong memories. Lasting relationships with amazing contractors and vendors who we couldn’t have accomplished it all without. We are so very proud of it all and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our families and friends. Here’s to 16 more!

Our journey began 25 years ago when we crossed paths at our very first design jobs. In 2007, we founded Shelter to create residential and commercial interiors with our signature coastal modern style.
