March is Women's History Month, it is a reminder of the accomplishments of women throughout the years to our culture and society. There are many parts of women's history to be celebrated, but it's also important to shine a light on injustices women have faced throughout history, especially women the color. One of those injustices is the to***co industry's targeting of low income women of color.

To achieve health equity, to***co control efforts are needed to counteract the influence of to***co industry marketing to low-income women.

On behalf of my colleagues Wisconsin African American To***co Prevention Network, Wisconsin To***co Prevention and Poverty Network (WTPPN), and Jump at the Sun Consultants they are recruiting Hispanic/Latino older smokers, 50- 70 years of age to participate in a virtual focus group discussion on March 1st. Each participant will receive a $50.00 Visa gift card for participating in the virtual (Zoom) discussion. You must be able to speak English, as the groups will not be offered in Spanish.

Thank you to Alverno College for having us. We were able to speak to students about the dangers of commercial to***co products and the harmful effects it has on your health. We also handed out popcorn while discussing popcorn lung which is a uncommon lung disease that is linked to a chemical called diacetyl, which is found in v**es.

Today, Mr. Chris Draft, former NFL player and Board Member of the White Ribbon Project (https://www.thewhiteribbonproject.org/bios/chris-draft) visited the Medical College of Wisconsin to hand out white ribbons he created, to those contributing to reducing lung cancer.

As a leader in the Metro-Milwaukee area and Prevention Coordinator of the Wisconsin Hispanic/Latinx To***co Prevention Network, I was honored to be able to receive a white ribbon.
