Why do we dry cut our curly haired clients without shampooing first?

It’s the best way to see the shape as it builds, and it lets us see your curls in their natural state so we can customize the cut for how you truly wear your hair.

We shampoo and style as the second step so you can leave the salon rocking all the hydrated definition your curls are capable of (without those frizzy dead ends, of course!)

How often should you get your hair cut? We’ve got some thoughts!

Shorter styles need more frequent maintenance. Super short styles like those done with a clipper might need to visit their stylist every 3 weeks! Pixie cuts and “longer” short styles can typically go 4 to 6 weeks.

Chin to shoulder length we usually recommend every 6 weeks if you like your length precisely right where it is, or 8 weeks if you don’t mind gaining a little length.

Long hair? The ball is kind of in your court! We usually recommend 6 to 8 weeks, but if you’re trying to grow it longer it’s totally fine to go 12 to 16 weeks. Just be sure you’ve got a good deep conditioner or a strengthening treatment like Olaplex at home to fend off split ends!

Curly hair? A lot of our curly clients only wash once a week. There’s just not as much damage happening when your style routine is weekly rather than daily, so you may be able to go 3, 4, maybe even 6 months between cuts before those ends really need some tlc 🫶

We all train in curly cutting because we believe texture should never be a barrier to getting the hair of your dreams.

But beyond that, we encourage our stylists to seek out training in whatever style or technique appeals to them.

Our stylist Adriana recently created this stunning custom color for her client, and it just goes to show rainbow hair is the best hair! But it can be higher maintenance than more natural hues. Here’s a couple of tips for keeping your hair brighter for longer:

🌈 Wash once a week. Make friends with dry shampoo!

🌈 Wash with cool water only (this is so much easier in summer than it is in winter!)

Sometimes people ask us why we require consultations for first time color appointments.

Why? This helps your stylist accurately plan out the best plan of action to get your desired results. Some projects need to be spread out over a few appointments and some can be done in one session.

The look you’re wanting might be as simple as throwing in a few highlights, or it might need extra steps like a shadow root, a reverse balayage, or a color melt! It all depends on what you’re starting with.

Consultations help us do our very best for you, and make sure your appointment time is long enough to accommodate whatever your hair needs. 🫶

Carson is known for her expertise in color transformations. She will take you from one end of the color wheel to the next. Her passion is in creating bold vivid colors without having to be high maintenance. She blends technical skills with creativity to create personalized looks that empower clients to express themselves boldly.

As an inclusive stylist, she ensures every client feels represented and valued while creating a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. Carson has 8 years of experience and is always striving to expand her knowledge within the industry.

In her free time you can find her playing video games, hanging out with her dog Wilfred, watching horror movies with her friends, and spending time outside.

PSA: Stop using purple shampoo as your daily shampoo!

It’s a strong shampoo, meant to make your hair squeaky clean so that it can absorb the maximum amount of purple tone. We absolutely love it, but we always recommend waiting a few weeks after your color service to use it.

We just glossed your blonde to perfection, so let your gloss start fading on its own. (Purple shampoo will take it right out!) Only start using your purple shampoo when you see the yellow/brassy tones creeping in.

And remember what we said about it being a strong shampoo? If you use it as your daily wash, your tresses can start to feel majorly dry. Alternate it with a color-safe moisture shampoo, or try a purple conditioner instead!

Gray blending is one of the most frequent requests we get, and a lot of times people are hoping for an instant silver fox transformation.

When we see a head of hair like this lovely client, blending out that strong line of demarcation left over from the last time you colored your hair is priority #1.

It might mean a few appointments of highlights and lowlights to break up the line and gradually shifting your color palette cooler so it makes a prettier contrast against your gray.
