This was the first of a series of events this year on the nature and implications of generative AI for the Marquette University community.

The Marquette Center for Data, Ethics, and Society is co-sponsoring a series of events this year on the nature and implications of generative AI for the Marquette University community.

The first event, co-sponsored by the Graduate School and Humanities Research Colloquium, will be a panel discussion, "Exploring Large Language Model-Based Chatbots and Generative AI Use on Campus.” The panel will be held in Raynor Library’s Beaumier Suites BC next Thursday, September 21 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.

Dr. Melissa Shew, Associate Director of Teaching Excellence, Center for Teaching and Learning
Dr. Gerry Canavan, Chair and Professor, Department of English
Dr. Jacob Riyeff, Director, Academic Integrity Office
Dr. Larry Zhiming Xu, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Director, Ai4Ai Lounge

The panelists will cover the basics of the technology and discuss the pros and cons of using generative AI in academic settings. They will also facilitate attendees’ experimentation with generative AI tools like Chat GPT. Feel free to bring your laptops or other devices if you would like to experiment during the session.
