Larry Drabot recently succeeded on a Declaratory Judgment motion in Milwaukee County whereby the court found that a personal auto policy’s exclusion for “delivery related business” was clear and unambiguous; the exclusion included use of the insured vehicle while returning from a pick-up or delivery and excluded coverage for injury incidental to or emanating from use of the vehicle for a delivery related business. Therefore, the court ruled that the policy did not provide coverage for a food delivery driver who had just completed a delivery, had his delivery service “app” running and was on his way to a different location to find more food delivery business. Although the driver had not accepted any new deliveries, his stated purpose for using the vehicle at the time of the accident was to continue looking for deliveries.

Milwaukee police officers disabled in the line of duty were set up to receive additional funds in back pay after the city recalculated their benefits. Attorneys that worked on a separate case regarding the disability benefits for Milwaukee fire fighters on duty disability are now suing, saying they deserve a cut of those additional funds because they worked on a similar case.

Bice: International union accuses lawyer of trying to 'extort' injured cops over legal fees MacGillis Wiemer wants retired Milwaukee cops receiving duty disability payments to pay the firm $678,000 even though it doesn't represent them.

Our attorneys Brianna Meyer and Samuel Hall won a case in Sauk County regarding Discretionary Immunity (Wis. Stat. §893.80-Immunity). The case came about after a reporting error in a local newspaper based on information received from the Sheriff’s office.

One of our shareholders, Attorney Aggie Raynor, often presents on topics in and around employment and human resources. She presents on these topics because employment law is her passion, and an extension of that is sharing her knowledge with others.

This week, Aggie presented in the Wisconsin Human Resource Law: What You Need to Know Now seminar hosted by the National Business Institute. Aggie was asked to speak on two topics. She first presented on employee discipline and termination talking about how to evaluate, discipline and terminate employees without fear of retaliation. Then, her second portion focused on discrimination and harassment, specifically the laws around different forms of discrimination, how to handle complaints, and how to prevent discrimination and harassment.

Attorney Brianna Meyer, Marquette '17, recently joined the firm as an associate after several years working in criminal defense litigation. She is based in our Milwaukee office and will be focusing her practice on Title IX litigation, education and employment disciplinary actions, criminal and OWI defense litigation, and general insurance defense.

Attorney Kevin Landgraf, Marquette '22, joined the firm's Milwaukee office this summer. He will be focusing on general civil litigation and municipal law.

Crivello Carlson’s Eau Claire Area Summer Employment and Worker’s Compensation Series is an introductory exploration into the most significant general employment and worker’s compensation issues Wisconsin employers face today. This series will provide an overview of state and federal laws and other requirements that employers need to know. Attendees will learn how to reduce liability, better prevent employment and worker’s compensation claims, and effectively handle claims when they do arise.

This program is designed for business owners and managers who directly handle employee issues, human resources personnel new to the industry, and other professionals seeking a better understanding of worker’s comp and employment laws and regulations. You will be given tools to identify issues that must be addressed and a roadmap to navigate the most common employment and worker’s compensation issues.

All presentations will take place at Crivello Carlson’s office in the Trust Point Building, 7 South Dewey Street, Eau Claire. We hope you can join us for one or all of these events.
