The YSDP participants attend college and character development class once a week. Kristy Croaker, who is our youth coordinator, leads workshops with our youth about trades, professionalism, entrepreneurial opportunities. πŸŽ“ #SocialMediaTakeover #SSNC #YSDP

The YSDP created prevention art this year to raise awareness for the community addressing topics around sex, drugs, and violence. Check out some of the amazing art pieces they produced! 🎨 #SocialMediaTakeover #SSNC #YSDP

Every year, YSDP youth are actively engaged in the community. This year, our teens planned 5 clean-ups for the springtime and worked as a team to make sure the task got done. Eddie Kimbrough, who is our youth coordinator, makes sure the teens are ready and motivated to do the task when leading this group.πŸ—‘β™»οΈ #SocialMediaTakeover #SSNC #YSDP

The Silver Spring Neighborhood center had 10 youth ages 8-18 sign up for swim workshops. The youth attended swimming for three months every Saturday. πŸŠβ€β™€οΈ #SocialMediaTakeover #SSNC #YSDP

Our sports development program is overseen by Tony Williams . The program has been coached by Carvius Williams all spring semester and the program has hosted leagues as well as AAU teams. The AAU teams also participate in the Layups and Literacy program hosted by Dr. Charles Waisebern which is a Silver Spring Neighborhood Center program in partnership with Sam Waisebern Memorial. The layups and literacy program consists of youth reading for one hour and in exchange they receive professional coaching by Coachd Williams. #SocialMediaTakeover #SSNC #YSDP

Silver Spring YSDP program has an amazing music program hosted by our youth coordinator, Margret Ann Crosby. Ann started off as a volunteer and poured love, trust, and character building into her workshops with the teens. She was so amazing to the teens that they requested she become staff and work with them more days in the week. Music class has successfully retained 11 out of 12 youth. They journal each section, learn to understand the full power of their words, and practice public speaking and presentation. Music class is their safe space and where they push each other as a team. #SocialMediaTakeover #SSNC #YSDP

In our 65th year, we continued to build a safer, stronger neighborhood on Milwaukee’s northwest side by addressing food security, youth programming, workforce development, and early education. As we reflect on the success of the 2023 year, we want to thank each donor, staff member, participant, and partner who contributed, followed along, and championed our cause. When we come together as a community, we can create meaningful change. Cheers to building a #CommunityOfSuccess! Let's keep it going in 2024! πŸŽ‰

Check out Brooklynn from our Youth Social Development program as she works through a Confidence Session with our friends at Riding with Angels. This is one of many programs our staff implements to support our teens’ social and emotional wellbeing through recreational therapy.

Our amazing teens embarked on a transformative journey at Camp Helen Brachman as part of the Summer Healing initiative. This initiative is designed to support the mental health and social-emotional development of Milwaukee's youth, while fostering a deep connection with nature. During their time at Camp Helen Brachman, our teens engaged in a plethora of enriching activities that not only brought them closer to the natural world but also helped them nurture their own growth. From archery and swimming to midnight hiking and campfires, each experience served as a building block for their personal development. We witnessed our teens challenge themselves, overcome obstacles, and develop essential life skills in an environment that encouraged camaraderie and support. Through activities like capture the flag, they learned the value of teamwork, cooperation, and friendly competition, fostering bonds that will last a lifetime. We believe in the power of connecting young individuals with nature to nurture their well-being and build resilience. The healing benefits of the great outdoors cannot be overstated! Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to Camp Helen Brachman for providing an incredible space where our teens could truly thrive. We extend our thanks to everyone involved in making this experience possible: the counselors, volunteers, and our generous sponsors. Your support is integral to the success of programs like these, and we are immensely grateful for your dedication and contributions. As we reflect on this remarkable journey, we are filled with immense pride for our teens' growth and resilience. They have shown us the power of embracing new experiences, finding solace in nature, and fostering connections that nourish the soul. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our mission of empowering Milwaukee's youth and providing them with opportunities for growth, healing, and self-discovery! Together, we can make a difference. #SilverSpringNeighborhoodCente

Meet Lemarus Shields, one of the shining stars in our organization. Lemarus is no stranger to Silver Spring Neighborhood Center as he has been with us since he was just eight years old. He recently attended a press conference where he shared his thoughts on the positive impact of Uncom Pals night on the youth in Milwaukee. As our youth lead worker, Lemarus plays a significant role in organizing Uncom Pals night and other engaging activities for young people across the city. We are proud to have him as a youth leader within our organization and are thrilled to see him making strides in the community. To learn more about Lemarus' contributions, check out the news conference coverage.

Our youth development teens have been hard at work building the concept for this video. This is an original song that focuses on gun violence prevention. Great job to the YSD and team.
