Congratulations to Jason Rownd, Medical Physicist, for being awarded Fellowship in the American Brachytherapy Society!
Congratulations to Rachel Kuehn, MCW Cancer Center trainee in Dr. Heather Himburg's lab, for presenting her research at the recent National Conference on Undergraduate Research in Long Beach, CA. Rachel presented work on the role of Myeloid Derived Suppressor Cells (MDSCs) in radiation resistance in head and neck cancer. MDSCs are immature cells that help tumors grow by releasing immunosuppressive cytokines, often attracting more MDSCs and making the tumor more resistant to radiation.

Congratulations to Dr. Heather Himburg for being selected to receive the JW Osborne Award from the Radiation Research Society (RRS). This award recognizes an RRS member who has made significant contributions in the area of normal tissue radiation injury and response. Dr. Himburg will be receiving her honor at the RRS Annual Meeting in September 2024. She was also approved as a new member of the Radiation Therapeutics and Biology Study Section (RTB) for 2024-2028.
