Wisconsin Lutheran High School’s very own Charlie Falkner manages the local union and put this event together, and Pastor Ken Fisher, WLHS president, offering a brief message to start.

Just in time for the 4th of July holiday. Pool officially opens today after passing final inspection. All hands were on deck to wrap up the details. Congrats to the Katz JVT project team!

11 years ago, sunset on the new B Bruce Krier Center extension.

Opened this wing of the main campus on North Avenue in 2011 to house the school’s primary grades, plus church, school, business, and development offices, and meeting/community space. Hidden under the playground is 672 feet of 72” diameter storm water retention system. The roof has a solar panel array, the gym a green roof, and each facade is designed uniquely to provide daylighting and passive solar shading. Sustainable and energy-efficient principles deployed in the envelope construction positively impact annual energy usage and keep operating costs low. The materials inside and out are beautiful and durable. Views to daylight and nature abound - now known as biofilic design. The urban planning of the site and neighborhood enhancing design feature a human-scaled and activated facade, ample pedestrian walks, and have increased home values in Historic Brewer’s Hill.

The design set a new standard for schools in milwaukee operating within the voucher/charter realm. The proof of what is possible when the client understands and appreciates what Architects really do.

What started off as a shared pipe dream is burning bright, constantly growing, always overcoming new obstacles and now employs 10 people, running 3 shifts a day. That welcome glimpse of sun and blue skies earlier this week! An architect friend from Texas once asked why so many buildings in the north have deep red brick… must be to warm up the otherwise gray palatte we endure all winter. Two projects we chose to match the brick of the century old building we were extending looking beautiful on a Monday morning.
