Twenty years ago this month, while most of my peers were finishing degrees and starting families, my friend Brent and I walked into a neighborhood bar and set up our first record spin.

Named for my friend (and ex-babysitter!) Harvey Scales’ mid 60s soul record - the night caught on fairly quick. We were inspired by our obsession with finding local soul and funk 45s, our friends Dante, Shaun, and Courtland down the road in Chicago (then-resident DJs of Danny’s legendary “Soul Night”) - and of course the UK guys like Keb, Ian, Fryer, etc..

Three or four lineup changes, three or four bands, three or four relationships and two beautiful little boys later - we celebrate 20 tonight (Friday 10/27) @ Promises MKE with a free party 9-close! Spending the AM digging up a full set of early-days jams for the occasion -

We’re excited to announce our first rooftop party of the summer at Central Standard Craft Distillery. Join us on Saturday June 24 from 8pm to Midnight for the best Funk & Soul dance party in Milwaukee. Space is extremely limited at 100 attendees so get there early. Cover is $10 (cash or Venmo only - no ATM in house).

After 14 years of bringing the heaviest Funk and Soul dance music to MKE, The Get Down will be hosting its last event at Mad Planet. Stay tuned for our future plans which include four rooftop parties at Central Standards Distillery across the summer. We look forward to seeing you for one last hurrah on Saturday June 10th.
