wrap around porch and large magnolia tree on the south side of the front lawn. Hart and his wife, Mary, the house was one of Mineola's finest. The Harts' daughter, Polly Hart Peterson, and her husband, Dr. T.H. Peterson, occupied the home until the late 1980's. "Dr. Pete," as he was affectionately known, had his medical office within the house. Local residents, John and Pam Trent, bought the home in 1990 from members of the Hart family and began extensive restoration. Great care was taken to maintain the architectural integrity during this process. In 2007, it was purchased by Rob and Katherine Campos, with Mr. Campos' law office also being located in the home. Sadly, in 2009, the Magnolia House was destroyed by fire. The home had been recognized with both a historical subject marker as well as being a Texas Historical Landmark. The large magnolia tree, though suffering damage on the back side, survived the fire. It remains in the lot as a beautiful reminder of the historic home and its history. The City of Mineola, through privately raised funds, purchased the property and began the process of establishing Peterson Park. Continued support and donations are needed for the project to be completed and usable.
