As dog lovers, one of the hardest decisions we had when we opened Better Days was whether to be a “Pet Friendly” rental. The first two years that we were open we did not permit pets. However, the rental research indicates that the ability to bring pets on a lake vacation is a huge factor in someone’s decision to rent a house (as opposed to a hotel) for vacation, and we are in a much more competitive rental market now than we were in 2021. It simply no longer makes sense to artificially limit our perspective pool of renters who would want to enjoy Better Days but had to choose some other place solely because they could not bring their fur babies along.

So effective immediately, Better Days is Pet Friendly for the remainder of 2023! The Vacasa listing will be updated shortly with this option, as well as the new amenities we have for this season.

We hope that having the option to bring your pet will make it even easier for you to choose Better Days!

We are always looking at our reviews and looking to improve our amenities in what is a more competitive rental market this year. We have added granite countertops with a breakfast bar, a Gameroom bar with mini fridge, additional cushioned seating in our screened in porch and decks, and a new 16 x 8 swim platform to soak up the rays and the views of the lake! On the one year anniversary of the real estate closing and beginning of renovations on Better Days, we have so much to be thankful for! So much work went into bringing the house to the short term rental market and today marks the first Thanksgiving where three families and their children are making holiday memories at the house!

Thank you to our wonderful and understanding neighbors who have seen their share of comings and goings. Thank you to all of the families and friend groups who picked Better Days and booked vacations with us. Thank you to Ricky Collins, our contractor and handy man, who is always ready to spring to action at a moment’s notice when something needs fixing. Thank you to my sister’s family for helping with the landscaping last month, and finally a giant thank you to my wife and boys who were great sports and lived in the middle of a construction zone last Thanksgiving doing the demo and yard clean up that saved us so much in start up costs.

It has been a dream of mine since I was 12 years old to once again have a family lakehouse, and I am so appreciative of the role you all played, big and small (from renting the house to simply sharing these posts with your friends and families and getting the word out) to help make this dream a reality.

Thank you all for making Better Days’ first summer as a vacation rental home a smashing success! Since we opened our doors in March we have welcomed 50 different families/friend groups with 16 more on the schedule for the remainder of the calendar year. The overwhelming number of reviews have been great, and the few times the house fell short of expectations (and we had specific enough feedback) we took action to address the issues as soon as we could. One example was addressing the lack of lighting in the back yard; which we addressed by hanging out Edison patio lights to light the pathway to the lakeside fire pit. We appreciate the feedback as we will always strive to improve your experience!

Although Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks are now rented, there are still some weekends in November and December available, and January and February are wide open and represent the height of solitude for the year on Lake Anna. The heated and insulated game room is a great venue for watching college and NFL football games on two TVs while you play poker and shoot pool with your friends, or move inside and just stay cozy by the wood burning stove and stream your favorites while overlooking the wildlife that is always working on the cove. Lots of board games available too if you just want to unplug!

P.S -We replaced the water pressure tank immediately after hearing about the water pressure issues and the pressure has returned to normal. We also added more garbage cans. We are always trying to improve the experience so we appreciate the feedback.

Better Days in full bloom!

With the inside of the house fully renovated and the weather warming up we are now turning our attention to the beautification of the grounds with new plants and staining of the sun deck and main deck on the near horizon.

Better Days has rented for every weekend in the past month and every day until the last week of April is currently booked. All weekends in May are gone as well but there are still some days during the weeks in May available and entire weeks in August just waiting for you.

Better Days is renting like gang-busters so far so thank you to all who shared this page! Our very first renters are there enjoying the house for the weekend as we speak...

After being on the market for a week we have nine different reservations and next weekend is the only weekend left in March that is still open. Labor Day weekend is booked as is Spring Break week, and 1 week in July. The rest of the spring and summer is pretty wide open right now but based on how well Vacasa seems to be able to market these homes, most of the open dates will likely be gone by April.

Here are some pictures of the view of the common area and boat ramp that you will also have access to during your stay. You can launch your boat from here and then take the 5 minute ride and tie it up alongside the boathouse on our property on cleats or pilings in over 5’ deep water.
